Why 'Having it All' Is Actually Ruining Your Life | Tamu Thomas

Toxic productivity is lying to you about what success looks like. Learn how to stop chasing the scam of having it all.We are often told that high achievement requires constant motion, but Tamu Thomas is here to challenge that narrative. In this conversation, we examine the exhaustion that comes from trying to do everything at once. It is time to admit that the pressure to be perfect is not sustainable for our mental health. If you are tired of feeling like you are falling behind despite working yourself to the bone, this episode is for you. We discuss the practical reality of burnout recovery and why setting boundaries is the only way to reclaim your time. True work-life balance is not about doing more; it is about choosing what you actually want to keep.Connect with our guest: ✨Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tamu.thomas/✨ https://the-elg.org/Book: Women Who Work Too much✨Read: https://amzn.eu/d/0eWKOYm9✨Listen: https://open.spotify.com/show/65tpPVVwWQsXGgSsjuFHrZConnect with me & the show:✨ Host: https://www.instagram.com/sadesalamiofficial ✨ Show: https://www.instagram.com/thecheckinwithsade/Let me know in the comments: what is one task you are officially taking off your to-do list this week? What We Were Never Taught About Black History | Ekaete Alfred

Do we still need Black History Month? And how much does knowing our history shape the way we see ourselves? In Episode 2 of Season 2 of The Check-In, I sit down with history educator and founder of the Pan-African Academy, Ekaete Alfred, to talk about Black History Month, African history, Black identity and what we're teaching the next generation. 🤍We get into why so much of the Black history we're taught begins with slavery and struggle, the African history many of us never learned at school, and why knowing where you come from can have such an impact on your sense of identity and what's possible for you.We also talk about the relevance of Black History Month today, Black British history, Pan Africanism, raising children with a strong sense of self, the relationship between Africans and the wider diaspora, and what a more united Africa could look like. It's a conversation about history, but also about identity, belonging and what happens when you understand the story you come from.Connect with our guest:✨Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/panafricanacademy/Ekaete is running free sessions during October at ✨ https://www.panafricanacademy.org/Connect with me & the show:✨ Host: @sadesalamiofficial✨ Show: instagram.com/thecheckinwithsadeLet me know in the comments: do you think we still need Black History Month?Subscribe for weekly conversations on life, culture and everything we're figuring out along the way. 🤍#BlackHistory #AfricanHistory #BlackHistoryMonth #PanAfricanism #TheCheckIn

Are Women Too Picky, Or Is Modern Dating the Problem? | Chanté Joseph

Are women really “too picky” or has the reality of modern dating changed? For the first episode of Season 2 of The Check-In, I’m joined by writer, journalist and author Chanté Joseph for a very honest conversation about dating, singlehood, friendship and building a fulfilling life outside of romantic relationships. Chanté opens up about the thinking behind her viral British Vogue article “Is Having a Boyfriend Embarrassing Now?”, her upcoming book Picky, why situationships have become so common, and why she believes we need to look more closely at the dating pool before telling women to lower their standards. We also get into the pressure society puts on women to couple up, whether relationships actually benefit women, the realities of dating when everything is more expensive, and why being single doesn't have to be treated like a temporary state you're supposed to escape. But this conversation goes beyond dating. We talk about adult friendship, loneliness and community, why making friends can feel so awkward, why Chanté thinks sometimes you have to be willing to feel a little “beggy”, asking more of our friendships, friendship break-ups, knowing your neighbours and creating the kind of care we often reserve exclusively for romantic partners. Chanté also tells me about taking on Pearly Things after her teenage sister appeared in one of her videos, the manosphere and “red pill” culture, becoming a writer, Strangers in the City, and the article that changed her career.
