    #5: We Belong Together

    Thanks 4 Giving, week one. Pastor Nate gave us a challenge this month: take a picture of something you're thankful for every single day — and it got me thinking about what it actually means to have a life of significance. Because everybody wants their life to matter. We want to leave an impact, not just an impression. In this episode, we're going through Romans 12 and Mark 10: grace enables our faithful response, we belong together as one body, and our gifts were given for the good of others. Someone, at some point, is going to need the exact gift you've been given. We talk about the place of desolation, too — God doesn't waste the journey you're in. Through His grace, He's redeeming the pain, and one day you will walk with someone through their pain. And the part that hit me hardest: the world measures greatness by power and spotlight. Jesus redefines greatness by service. Most of us are shaped more by our algorithm than by our Bible — so what is God inviting you to do? Especially for my high school seniors: you don't have to be impressive to be significant. You belong here, even now. Open your Bible, check your heart, and come sit down.     #4: When Life Truly Sucks

    Some weeks, life just sucks. And when it does, you usually get two bad options from the people around you: toxic positivity ("just be positive, God's got a plan, good vibes only") — or nothing, because staying negative starts to feel like the only honest option. In this episode, I'm calling out both ditches. The Bible doesn't do toxic positivity — David asked God where He was, Job's friends gave terrible advice, and Jesus wept at a funeral. Grief is not unfaithfulness. But setting up camp in the negative isn't the answer either — what you practice literally rewires your brain. Paul called it the renewing of your mind. Science calls it neuroplasticity. Same thing. So what's the third way? Tell the truth about how bad it is, AND practice looking for God in the small stuff — the friend who texted back, the song on the drive, still being here. Plus one practical habit that retrains your brain to scan for good instead of only threats. Especially for my high school seniors: you don't have to feel better before you talk to God. Talk to Him mad. Talk to Him sad. The Psalms give you permission. Open your Bible, check your heart, and come sit down.     Your 3-Day Kingdom Challenge

    Today's sermon hit different: "Hospitality isn't just something the church does. It's one of the ways the church shows the world what the kingdom of God looks like." So here's the challenge — for the podcast family AND my senior girls: for the next 3 days, ask the Lord to show you 3 people He wants you to speak to. Every time you do it, tell somebody. It won't be comfy. It will be KINGDOM WORK. Open your Bible, check your heart, and come sit down.

    Are You Taking a Break From Jesus?

    Fall break is here — and our stories are full of beaches, mountains, and miles run. Liza's calling it out (herself included): are we using all this extra free time to post our accomplishments… and quietly taking a break from Jesus in the process? This one's for the girls in her small group and every student sitting on 8 extra hours this week: when's the last time you sat one-on-one with your Father — not church, not Switch, not small group — just you and Him, deep in the Word?
