    The King You Need (Not the King You Expected)" | Matthew 21:1-11

    Matthew 21:1-11: The Triumphal Entry. Jesus orchestrates the fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9—riding on a donkey signals "Your king has come."Not the first time a king rode a donkey (Solomon rode David's mule in 1 Kings 1). Jesus = greater than Solomon, son of David.Passover was like a fair—familiar + surprise. Up to 2 million in Jerusalem. Buzz in the air. Jesus disrupts the liturgy.Crowd response: "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Psalm 118). They recognized the Messianic sign but misunderstood what KIND of king.Not crowned with gold, but thorns. Not to overthrow Romans, but make atonement for sin.What king are YOU expecting?     Acts 15:1-21: The first church council. False teachers from Judea: "Unless you're circumcised according to Moses, you cannot be saved." Paul and Barnabas have "no small dissension and debate" with them.Is salvation by grace or by works of the law? It cannot be both.The Council of Jerusalem gathers. Peter stands: "Why put God to the test by placing a yoke neither we nor our fathers could bear? We believe we'll be saved by grace—just as they will." James confirms with Scripture.The verdict: Salvation is all of grace, not of works. In Christ alone. By grace alone. Through faith alone. Scripture alone.     Mere Mortals With A Message | World Without End

    Acts 14:1-18: Paul and Barnabas driven from Antioch arrive in Iconium. A great number believe—both Jews and Greeks. But unbelieving Jews poison minds against them. Instead of retreating, they stay "a long time speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders."Eventually driven out again, they flee to Lystra. There Paul heals a cripple—a "person of peace" with faith to be made well. The crowd thinks Zeus and Hermes have come down. They try to offer sacrifices. Paul and Barnabas tear their garments: "We're mere mortals! Turn from vain things to the living God!"Spurgeon's quote: "The same sun which melts wax hardens clay. The same gospel which melts some to repentance hardens others in their sins."There's no casual church attendance. You're either advancing toward God or being hardened against Him.     Appointed to Eternal Life Pt. 3 | World Without End

    Acts 13:26-52 (Part 3): The climax of Paul's first sermon and the doctrine of election in plain view.Paul proclaims the gospel clearly: Jesus' perfect life, death, burial, and resurrection FOR us and IN our place. He warns the Jews not to fall into the error of Esau, thrusting aside their birthright. The whole city gathers. Some rejoice. Some revile.Then comes verse 48: "As many as were appointed to eternal life believed." Not "as many as believed were appointed." The ORDER matters. God's sovereign election in plain view.Picture a great doorway. Facing it, the sign says: "WHOSOEVER BELIEVES." On the other side: "APPOINTED TO ETERNAL LIFE." Jesus promises: "Whoever comes to Me, I will NEVER cast out" (John 6:37).There will never be anyone who wanted Jesus and was rejected. And there will never be anyone whose name gets left behind. Election doesn't make sinners passive, it makes believers BOLD. Your salvation is as secure as Christ is. And where is Christ?     Appointed To Eternal Life Pt. 2 | World Without End

    Acts 13:13-52: Paul's first recorded sermon in the Book of Acts. After arriving in Pisidian Antioch, Paul stands in the synagogue and preaches the gospel. He traces redemptive history from Moses through David to John the Baptist, then connects it all to Jesus. "Of David's offspring, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, according to His promise. "What's the message of salvation? Verses 30-32: "But God raised Him from the dead." The promise became news. The gospel isn't just instructions for life, it's a PERSON who did something for you and in your place. "Through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by Him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. "But Paul doesn't end with an altar call. He issues a stark warning from Habakkuk: "Beware lest what is said in the prophets should come about. "Warnings are grace, not rejection. The whole city gathers. Some rejoice. Some revile.     Appointed to Eternal Life Pt 1 | World Without End

    Acts 13:13-52: Paul's first recorded sermon in the Book of Acts. But before we get to Paul's message, we need to see WHO is sending him.Acts 13:1 names the church at Antioch: Barnabas, Saul, Simeon called Niger (likely Simon of Cyrene who carried Jesus' cross), Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen (lifelong friend of Herod). This isn't random, Luke is highlighting DIVERSITY from day one.Ethnic diversity (African men from Cyrene, one darker than the other). Socioeconomic diversity (from Herod's wealthy friend to common laborers). Educational diversity. All unified at the foot of the cross.The enemy wants us to focus on our differences and question how anyone could understand us. But Christ died to adopt us into a FAMILY that doesn't always look like us. We don't come to Jesus based on our ethnicity, education, or bank account. We all come as great sinners needing a greater Savior.At the foot of the cross is the great equalizing force.     God's Sovereignty in Scripture | Faith That Endures

    A short devotional on God's sovereignty based on this week's lectionary readings: Amos 3, Psalm 139, Matthew 4, and 1 Corinthians 1.Amos 3: "Can two walk together unless they be agreed?" Nothing happens by chance, everything occurs by God's decree. God is sovereign over all creation and history.Psalm 139: God is sovereign over your life personally. He knit you together, knows every word before you speak, every thought before you think it.Matthew 4: Jesus begins His ministry exactly when and where prophesied. God chose His first disciples, Peter, Andrew, James, John, and He continues to choose His disciples today. He chose YOU.1 Corinthians 1: The gospel doesn't depend on your eloquence or training.
