"What Seems Right, pt. 14" | Judges 10

Israel's story in Judges 10 is a warning about the danger of spiritual complacency. During a long season of peace, the people drifted from God and eventually fell into deeper rebellion than ever before. The consequences were severe, and when they cried out for help, their repentance was shallow. It lacked any real desire for transformation or acknowledgment of their need for grace. True repentance is not just a cry to escape a difficult situation. It is a genuine turning of the heart back to God, accompanied by a change of behavior rooted in gratitude for His mercy. The cycle of spiritual failure only breaks when we stop treating God as a last resort and start treating Him as our first love.

"Dreams, Jealousy, and Divine Purpose" | Genesis 37

Joseph's story in Genesis 37 reveals how God works through difficult circumstances to accomplish His greater plan. At seventeen, Joseph was favored by his father Jacob and received prophetic dreams showing his future prominence. His brothers' hatred, fueled by favoritism and jealousy, led them to sell him into slavery. Yet God's sovereignty was evident throughout - from the dreams themselves to the providential timing of traders heading to Egypt. Joseph's experiences parallel Christ's rejection and ultimate exaltation. This narrative teaches us that God uses even betrayal and suffering to position us for His purposes, working all things together for good even when we can't see the bigger picture.

"What Seems Right, Pt 13" | Judges 9

The story of Abimelech in Judges 9 reveals how pride and ambition can destroy entire communities. Gideon, despite being a godly leader, fell into the trap of pride by taking his eyes off God and focusing on himself. His son Abimelech took this pride to horrifying levels, murdering 69 brothers to seize power. Jotham's parable of the trees warned that choosing worthless leaders leads to destruction. This story challenges us to examine what we're teaching others through our daily choices and priorities. Are we demonstrating that God is our highest priority, or are we more concerned with position, control, and personal ambitions?

What Seems Right, Pt 12 | Judges 8

Many Christians today have been taught that the gospel is all about them - their identity, benefits, and promises from God. While containing truth, this teaching misses the bigger picture and leaves believers unprepared for hardships. The story of Gideon in Judges 8 reveals what happens when we make ourselves the center of God's story instead of recognizing that everything exists for His glory. After his miraculous victory, Gideon transforms from a humble leader seeking God's guidance to someone operating on personal initiative and accepting praise meant for God. His decline shows how dangerous it is to make Christianity about our benefits rather than God's glory. When we center faith on ourselves, we set up both ourselves and others for spiritual failure.

The story of Gideon reveals how God often works through impossible circumstances to demonstrate His power. When Gideon assembled 32,000 soldiers to fight the Midianites, God reduced his army to just 300 men to ensure Israel wouldn't boast in their own strength. Using unconventional weapons - clay jars, torches, and trumpets - God's small army created such confusion that the enemy defeated themselves. This teaches us that God does His most powerful work when we feel least equipped, using our brokenness like clay jars to let His light shine through and defeat darkness.

"What Seems Right, Pt 10" | Judges 6

The story of Gideon in Judges 6 reveals how God works through our weaknesses and calls us to trust His word rather than demand signs. Israel had fallen into a cycle of disobedience, oppression, and crying out to God, leading to their subjugation under the Midianites. God chose Gideon, an unlikely hero who was hiding and threshing wheat in a winepress, calling him a mighty man of valor despite his fears. After receiving confirmation through miraculous signs, Gideon was commanded to tear down his father's altar to Baal, which he did at night out of fear. Though Gideon asked for additional signs through his famous fleece tests, this actually demonstrated a lack of faith rather than wisdom. God's grace covered Gideon's weaknesses and doubts, showing that His presence is sufficient for whatever He calls us to do, even when it seems impossible.
