    September TV Roundup In an age where every streaming service seems determined to strip-mine every franchise down to its base-metals, we find ourselves staring down an impressively stacked slate of returning television. So naturally, the crew has assembled for one of our semi-regular TV Round-Up specials; because somebody has to keep track of all these seasons before they start numbering them like software updates. This episode dives into the latest developments from some of the biggest shows on the small screen.     The Periodic Table of Awesome podcast - Lanterns

    Lanterns (HBO) This episode, we fly into the first two episodes of Lanterns, HBO’s ambitious new DC mystery series that takes one of comics’ oldest cosmic institutions and creates the construct of: “What if intergalactic space cops were dropped into the middle of True Detective?” Starring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Lanterns follows the veteran Green Lantern and his new recruit partner as they investigate a mystery that may be bigger, stranger, and more alien than it first appears. Whether the series is destined to join the ranks of great comic book adaptations or end up floating through deep space with abandoned storylines, you’ll have to wait week by week and find out like the rest of us. The Green Lantern mythos stretches back to 1940, has spawned multiple Lantern Corps, plenty of emotional-spectrum chaos, and enough continuity rewrites to power a ring for centuries. Naturally, we take the scenic route through that history while unpacking what the show’s opening episodes are building toward.     The Periodic Table of Awesome Podcast - Widow's Bay

    Widow’s Bay Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay (2026) arrives with a siren song of small-town mystery and supernatural scares, firmly planting itself in that eerie territory somewhere between Stephen King‘s entire back catalogue and “Parks and Rec”(Not that Quinny would know)… Created by Katie Dippold and starring Matthew Rhys alongside Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root, The series follows a skeptical small town mayor trying to revitalise a struggling island community… while said community politely insists that no… it is, in fact, extremely cursed. It’s seaside charm, folklore that refuses to stay folklore, and a creeping sense that the local tourism slogan probably shouldn’t be “The next Martha’s Vineyard and definitely not cursed”.  With its blend of horror and comedy, it’s the perfect playground for trope-spotting and an amount of nervous laughter. Joining you on this misty journey are your fearless hosts: Dion, Jill, and Quinny.     The Periodic Table of Awesome podcast - Evil Dead Burn

    Evil Dead Burn Welcome back to the podcast where long-running franchises are lovingly dismembered, reanimated, and occasionally set on fire… This week, we’re diving chainsaw first? into Evil Dead Burn (2026), the sixth entry in Sam Raimi’s gloriously gooey horror legacy. What began in 1981 as the original scrappy, cabin-in-the-woods nightmare has since morphed into a full-blown franchise of splatter, slapstick, and increasingly unfunny trauma. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček and starring Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan, and Luciane Buchanan, this latest instalment swaps out “groovy” one-liners for something a little more… intense. Set around the worst family gathering… perhaps ever… the film promises Deadites, dismemberment and dread. Sadly it delivers a bit more dourness, depression and desultory franchise nods. To unpack it all, it’s just the two-man mythology crew this week: Dion and Quinny. No safety net, no Ash Williams—just two bearded men asking the big questions: How much gore is too much gore? Can a franchise lose its sense of fun?
