The Thriving Giver — 7 Principles for Enhanced Self-Care and Burnout Prevention

On episode 398 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews UK-based author, trainer, and resilience coach Sarah Kuiper, MSc, MCAHyp, FHEA, regarding The Thriving Giver, her book and workshop series based on 7 principles for health professionals and caregivers to enhance self-care and prevent burnout.
After working as a naturopath, hypnotherapist and life coach for nearly 20 years, burnout finally forced Sarah Kuipers to stop working. A three-month sabbatical gave time to heal body, mind and spirit, and prompted her to complete a masters in research to study stress and burnout in health professionals.
Sarah has over decade of experience helping doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals cultivate resilience, including teaching courses in personal development and stress management to medical students. Sarah’s #1 Bestseller, The Thriving Giver, 7 Principles for Health Professionals and Caregivers to Enhance Self-Care and Prevent Burnout was shortlisted for the Business Book Awards in 2022 and is currently being translated into Chinese.
Sarah will be offering a free webinar, The 3 Keys to Thriving in a Caring Profession, on January 25th, 2023 at 11am PT/2pm ET/7pm GMT, and her 7-week live online course The Thriving Giver will be launched in February, 2023.
Listeners of The Nurse Keith Show can download a free e-book from Sarah entitled Expressive Writing: How to Process and Release Distressing Thoughts and Emotions and Restore Psychological Well-Being.

When a Dedicated Nurse Meets Breast Cancer Head-On

When a Dedicated Nurse Meets Breast Cancer Head-On

On episode 396 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Rachel Vasquez, MSN, BSN, RN of New Jersey-based AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center regarding how a diagnosis of breast cancer was an incredibly life-changing moment. In the course of this intimate and tender conversation, Keith and Rachel discuss how being on the other side of the stethoscope taught her invaluable life lessons, including the crucial importance of nurses being as dedicated to their own well-being as that of their patients, as well as employers investing in the health maintenance and wellness of their hard-working staff.
Rachel Vasquez, MSN, RN, is the clinical risk manager for AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC), which is part of the regional healthcare system AtlantiCare. She is a key member of the team that oversees safety for the organization’s patients and staff. Vasquez collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure a safe care and working environment in the hospital’s campuses and ambulatory care sites, as well as AtlantiCare’s primary, specialty and urgent care sites and its business offices.
Prior to her current role, Vasquez was clinical manager of a Medical Telemetry unit at ARMC’s Mainland Campus. She began her nursing career with AtlantiCare as an Emergency Medical Services nurse in the field. She has also worked at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ, and other hospital and ambulance services.
Vasquez earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Felician University, Lodi, NJ, and her Master of Science in Nursing in leadership in healthcare systems at Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, AZ. Passionate about fostering learning opportunities for herself and others, she is pursuing her MBA in health systems management at Grand Canyon University.
In the midst of the pandemic, she and her husband had a happy life event to celebrate – Rachel became pregnant and gave birth to the couple’s beautiful daughter, Lorelai. After returning to work from her maternity leave, Rachel saw AtlantiCare’s reminders about having her annual primary care visit and getting age- and risk-related screenings. She made the appointment with her primary care provider and visited him just before her 40th birthday. What happened next was life-saving for Rachel and life-changing for her family.
Vasquez lives in Ocean County, NJ with her husband and daughter. They enjoy spending time doing outdoor activities, including taking in the beauty of nature.

How Subtle Shifts in Mindset Can Help Nurse Practitioners (and Nurses) Thrive

How Subtle Shifts in Mindset Can Help Nurse Practitioners (and Nurses) Thrive

On episode 394 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Josie Tate, MSN, CRNP, FNP-C, a successful family nurse practitioner and inspirational NP career mentor. In the course of their spirited discussion, Keith and Josie discuss the awareness and mindset it takes to level up from RN to NP; how subtle shifts impact success; overcoming Impostor Syndrome; and how to thrive in and out of clinical practice.
Josie Tate is a family nurse practitioner and career mentor with a heart to see others succeed. Since starting her nursing journey with a BSN in 2006, her most memorable times include being a preceptor to nursing students and mentor to newly hired employees.
Soon after becoming a nurse practitioner in 2018, she saw new NPs experience a disconnect between obtaining an advanced degree and embracing the role of advanced practice provider. To bridge that gap, she created Clincepts, a mentoring resource to help nurse practitioners get happily hired.
As a nurse leader, Josie empowers nurse practitioners to start their career endeavors encouraged and equipped to start their search and seal the deal to their ideal NP job. Clincepts at its core strives to be the much needed support structure that elevates advanced practice nurses to thrive both in and out practice.
Josie is also passionate about her life outside of practice. Her favorite roles are wife to her college sweetheart and mom to their three fun-filled kids. In her spare time, you can catch her completing a home decor project or reading a self-development book.

Fantastic podcast

This podcast is so deeply enriching! I am not in the medical field and find so much insight listening to Nurse Keith. Listened to the episode with Dr. Caroline Cardenas and am forever inspired! It feels like a conversation I want to take part in! Well done!
