    Not So FKN Typical - S2 Ep.5

This episode is a bit different. We start, obviously, talking about cute shorts, colouring books, a 21-year-old diary and Practical Magic 😂 And then we go somewhere we haven't really gone before. Amy talks about what it's like to have people who should feel like a given in your life… just not be there. An absent parent. A sister she hasn't spoken to in 18 months. And the weird, painful kind of grief that comes when someone is still out there living their life. Because how do you get closure when there's no ending? When they could call. When you could run into them. When your brain keeps an open tab running in the background asking: Was it me? Should I have tried harder? Should I let it go? And if I do… does that mean I've given up? We talk about filling in the blanks when nobody gives you answers, boundaries, guilt, chosen family, empathy being a bit of a f*****g curse… and whether keeping someone in your life is worth becoming a more palatable version of yourself again. And somehow, after an hour and twenty minutes of talking in circles, crying, laughing and sweating 😂 we actually landed somewhere. Maybe healing isn't about getting someone else to give you closure. Maybe it's about becoming so sure of your own values that you don't need to abandon yourself to keep someone else. This one is very close to the heart. And if you've ever had to grieve someone who's still here… We really hope this one makes you feel a little less alone. ❤️

The Creative Pod - Episode 22 (Bridie Connell)

Episode 22 - BRIDIE CONNELL - Performer, writer Bridie Connell is an ARIA and multi-award-winning writer and performer, with an array of experience in acting, comedy, voice artistry, musical theatre, and improvisation. She is a former national improv champion, as well as World Theatresports Championship finalist, and currently performs and teaches improv regularly in Sydney. Bridie was a cast member of the Australian version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, has appeared on True Story with Hamish & Andy, and was one of the reporters on the ABC Comedy show Tonightly With Tom Ballard. Bridie has written and performed several successful plays and various other shows, which have toured across Australia and New Zealand. Most recently, Bridie has seen international success with her show Fuccbois: Live in Concert, which was awarded the House of Oz Purse Prize at Adelaide Fringe, supporting them to back up their successful run in Melbourne and Adelaide with performances at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Soho Theatre in London. Bridie and the bois are now gearing up for their next chapter of touring the show in Sydney later this month. In this episode, Bridie joins me to chat about all things Fuccbois; from the real-life inspiration and initial concept through to the show-stopping success amongst mega fans of the UK. She shares how improv is a defining part of her creative process, as well as how Yve Blake’s homework and encouragement contributed to her sea shanty success. We unpack the satire and songs from the show, and discuss the complexities of the in-depth backstories of the characters, even in a seemingly “silly” show. Bridie shares her view on the importance of arts to bring colour and joy to our lives, and how the existence of creativity is everywhere and a core part of what makes us human.

How To Live - Episode 14 (Dr Lucy Burns)

In Episode 14 of How to Live, I sat down with Dr Lucy Burns – GP, Lifestyle Medicine doctor, founder of Real Life Medicine, and all-round legend. We talked about Lucy’s disability – and all the bullsh** she has to put up with (from other people). She shared the grief of losing her ability to do things (e.g. run), but also the gratitude that comes from doing things while she still can, knowing that one day she may not be able to. If you think about it, that’s a truth for all of us. She also told me about Russell – the Uber driver who refused to take her because of her disability – and Rashid, the legend who did. Then we geeked out about Lifestyle Medicine, metabolic health and menopause. Turns out oestrogen is pretty important for metabolism! We talked about how the hormonal changes around menopause can affect insulin sensitivity, body composition and metabolic health. Lucy also shared her philosophy of “grit and grace” – having the grit to keep going while giving yourself the grace to be human. And finally, we talked business. Lucy took me behind the scenes of Real Life Medicine and the work they’re doing to help women navigate perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause. She also emphasised the importance of more doctors getting online, putting themselves out there, and sharing their ideas and insights with the world. P.S.
