I fought my curls for most of my youth and young adult life…..venturing into downtown Chicago salons from my suburban home to undergo chemical straightening with products that looked like peanut butter and left scabs on my scalp, I rolled the top portion of my hair on large soup cans and then wrapped the rest around with huge bobby pins to sleep and cried after getting haircuts from stylists who looked at me with pity. Lorraine and her books, salons and products have changed my life. My curls are now my signature and not a week goes by that a stranger does not stop me on the street, in a restaurant to ask or comment on my silver and brown curls (I stopped coloring 13 years ago!). Lorraine has been cutting my hair since 2000. Most importantly, with her support, knowledge, cutting skills, style methods and products I have been able to accept and love a part of myself that I battled with for so long is FREE-ING in a way that is irreplaceable. I could listen to Lorraine speak all day. She has a way of putting people at ease that calms the spirit. I've learned so much from Lorraine about accepting, appreciating, and loving the hair that grows out of my head. Her book "The Curly Girl" was instrumental in my transition from chemically relaxed to naturally curly hair. I started implementing the Curly Girl Method years ago and haven't (almost--there were a few lapses in judgment) looked back since. I really enjoy listening to the experiences of other people in their curly hair journey--it resonates so much!
