Episode 41: Blindspot Patterns It’s easy to see a pattern in someone else’s life. It’s a lot harder to recognize one in your own. In this episode of I’m So Grown, we’re continuing the conversation about patterns—but this time, I’m turning the mirror on myself. Last episode, I asked you: What patterns do you have? Well, I'm answering that question today. I’m sharing three patterns I’ve noticed in myself: • The Cut-Off Pattern — when protecting myself means creating distance from people, situations, and even opportunities. • The “Reject You Before You Reject Me” Pattern — especially in romantic relationships, when uncertainty makes me want to leave before I have to experience rejection. • The Cold Shoulder Pattern — a behavior I used much more when I was younger, when shutting someone out felt easier than dealing with the conflict. And underneath all three, I noticed something bigger: When something feels uncertain, unsafe, hurtful, or disappointing, my instinct can be to create distance. But recognizing the pattern is only the beginning. Sometimes being grown is becoming a person who can recognize patterns, question them, and then decide whether they still serve you.
