Imagination Draw Along: a low stimulation drawing show for kids

Imagination Draw Along is an intentionally calm and low stimulation show for kids who want to draw. I'll guide young artists through drawing prompts, telling stories and sharing history about the topics we draw. Kids are encouraged to use their imaginations and make decisions as they draw. One of the goals is to build self-confidence because we know there's no wrong way to do art! Hi, I’m your host, Aunt Dewey. I’m a former New York City kindergarten teacher. Now I work in tech teaching adults how to use various software, platforms, and programs. I started Imagination Draw Along because I think a low-stim, screen-free experience is good for kids and aspiring artists. We move slowly on purpose. I encourage listeners to make their own artistic choices as they follow along. It’s a light hearted show that helps build critical thinking skills by guiding the imagination through wonder. Episodes are 10-15 minutes long. New episodes will be available every Tuesday and Thursday. (I recently transitioned from Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Thanks for drawing with me today!

    Let's draw Dolly Parton and talk about role models

    Today I want to draw Dolly Parton because she's an artist on my mind. We'll draw her big hair and happy face, her fancy colorful dress, her high heeled cowgirl boots, and some accessories that represent the things she liked to do like sing and share books. We'll also talk about why I think she is a good role model and how music can help us feel better when we miss someone. In this episode I mentioned her program, The Imagination Library.     Let's draw 2 ballerinas--one leaping and one twirling

    Today I want to draw 2 ballerinas. We'll draw them both in classic tutus--you choose the color. We'll draw one ballerina twirling fast, and one leaping long. We'll make sure they're wearing their pointe shoes. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: Ballerinas sometimes wear tutus and pointy shoes - why do they dress in certain outfits?When you jump and leap and spin which muscles can you feel it in?What makes you want to dance?Want to draw something similar to this?     Let's draw a firetruck with all the lights and gadgets

    Today I want to draw a firetruck. We'll draw a big one with a place for the drivers, a place for gauges, and the big long back for the hose, the extra compartments, and the ladder. Of course we'll add flashing lights on top. We'll also talk about how emergency signals like sirens and alarms can be loud--but they're there to help us. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: Why do firefighters have to learn so much to be ready to fight fires?Are you the type of artist you likes to draw very accurately, very abstractly, or both?How can you make sure your family is prepared during an emergency?If you like this one and want to try more fire safety, try drawing a firefighter.     Let's draw a giant ice cream sundae

    Today I want to draw a big giant crazy ice cream sundae. We'll start with a fancy dish, then add classic toppings like a banana. chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and of course, your artist choice of any toppings you can think of. Drawing sprinkles reminded me of the famous pointillism artwork of Georges Seurat, so I talked a bit about his work and his artist choice to use dots. I'll show you a picture of his most famous painting on my blog. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: Ice cream is sooo good.     Let's draw two crabby crabs crab-walking on the beach

    Today I want to draw 2 crabby crabs crab-walking on the beach. We'll draw some ocean waves, and 2 crabs with very grumpy faces. This will be filled with a few crab facts, as well tips on how to rescue ourselves from crabby feelings. We'll talk a little bit about taking a deep breath when we feel crabby. And we'll talk about where crabs take deep breaths--under water AND on land!     Let's draw 3 different kinds of sharks swimming

    Today I want to draw sharks! We'll draw a Great White Shark with many sharp teeth, a Basking Shark with a giant open mouth, and a Hammer Head Shark down at the bottom of the ocean where he likes to hunt his prey. There are a lot of shark facts in this one! Most sharks are greyish blue, but an artist can make them any color they want--because there's no wrong way to do art. Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today: Why are there so many different types of sharks?How can your care for the planet protect sharks?If you were a shark, what kind do you think you would be?Wanna draw more underwater scenes?     Today I want to draw a rock star rocking out with their guitar. They'll have rock star hair, of course--it's your artist choice to decide what that looks like. We'll spend some time getting the details of the guitar just right, and then we will design our own crazy rock star outfits.     Let's draw a sandcastle with things we found at the beach

    Today I want to draw a sandcastle and decorate it with pieces of nature that we found at the beach. We'll draw a sand castle with three main parts, one made from a bucket, one made from a cup, and one made from hands only. We'll add sticks, shells, seaweed, and a straw to decorate.
