Imagining Yolo Davis interviews citizens (imaginers) of this community who are imagining projects that will affect all of us for the greater good. From recycling, music, community groups to park clean-up groups ... the list goes on — private imaginers using their talents to enrich our community. What makes these imaginers tick and what is so important? The health and well being of our community. The goal of Imagining Yolo Davis is twofold: first, to learn about a particular project and what motivates the imaginer's participation, and second, to to motivate other imaginers in our community. This show airs Fridays at 5:30 p.m. on KDRT. Repeats are available on kdrt.org or on your favorite podcast app.

    Pen Pals from 1933, on a special Imagining Yolo Davis, Jan. 5, 2024

    Today we have a special show with a playlist written by a 15-year-old (Jane Hutchens) in 1933. Jane lived in Bloomington, Ind., and was pen pals with my uncle Joop Pastoor in 1933 and 1934. Jane talked about herself and the music she loved. I do not have any letters Joop wrote to Jane. Joop was born in Holland in 1915 and died in Amsterdam 2013. He lived a long life. Not so for Jane, who was born in Indiana in 1918 but passed away from an illness in 1946. Listen to her letters and her playlist. I end the show with a couple of songs by local musicians.     Today we talk with Robin Dewey, president of Team Davis, which says its mission is to "help enrich the lives of children and adults with developmental, intellectual and/or physical disabilities living in or close to Davis. We sponsor athletic, social, recreational and educational activities that help build physical skills, a sense of camaraderie, and a more fully integrated connection with the Davis community for our participants and their families and support staff." Team Davis is run almost entirely by volunteers. They enrich lives as well as our community.

    Odd Fellows Davis Lodge with Noble Grand Larry Guenther, Dec. 1, 2023

    This week we have the pleasure of learning about the Odd Fellows, Davis Lodge. Lodge Noble Grand Larry Guenther explains the mission and opportunities offered by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows -- an amazing and unique group of concerned volunteers -- to help citizens of their community. According to the Odd Fellows Creed, members believe in the universal brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God. Odd Fellowship is non-partisan, non-sectarian, and welcomes all people without regard to religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, and national origin. The Davis Lodge has more than 80 committees working with its volunteers to make Davis a better community for all of us. Listen in as Larry does a great job of representing the Odd Fellows.
