    Episode 004: Flash Fiction Trio

    In Episode 004 of the Imagitopia podcast, host Justine Norton-Kertson reads a trio of fantasy flash fiction stories that, while seemingly different, share some common themes that bring the stories together. Our stories this week are: "The Pool of Rim" by Aaron Emmel First published in Æther/Ichor digital magazine’s Solstice 2019 edition. Aaron’s stories have appeared in Fireside Magazine, Daily Science Fiction, Apparition Lit and many other excellent magazines and anthologies. He also writes essays, graphic novels and interactive fiction. Her work has appeared in VICE Terraform, Strange Horizons, Scientific American, NewMyths and Michigan Quarterly, and in the anthologies Wild Women and Tragedy Queens: Stories Inspired by Lana del Rey & Sylvia Plath. The Futurist’s Mistress, her poetry book, is available from Mayapple Press. Her latest book, The Lady Anarchist Cafe, is out now from Autonomedia. *** "Small Magics" by Juliet Kemp First published in Flash Fiction Online in September 2020.  Juliet Kemp (they/them) is a queer, non-binary, writer. They live in London by the river, with their partners, kid, and dog. The first book of their fantasy series, The Deep And Shining Dark was on the Locus 2018 Recommended Reads list; the fourth and final book, The City Revealed came out in 2023. Their short fiction has appeared in venues including Uncanny, Analog, and Cast of Wonders, and they were short-listed for the WSFA Small Press Award in 2020 and 2023. When not writing or child-wrangling, Juliet knits, indulges their fountain pen habit, and tries to fit an ever-increasing number of plants into a microscopic back garden.     Episode 003: The Forest is a Dancer; The Fan Who Wasn't There

    This week we have two stories that are a bit shorter, about 1,500 words a piece. The first, in honor of Earth Day, is a climate fiction slipstream story titled, "The Forest is a Dancer" by Lynne Sargent. The second is a ghost story from William Shaw titled, "The Fan Who Wasn't There." AUTHOR BIOS Lynne Sargent is a writer, aerialist, and holds a Ph.D in Applied Philosophy. They are the poetry editor at Utopia Science Fiction magazine. Their work has been nominated for Rhysling, Elgin, and Aurora Awards, and has appeared in venues such as Augur Magazine, Strange Horizons, and Daily Science Fiction.
