Elucidating & Pleasant Listening

Harry Haskell has perfect cadence & pitch. His voice is mellifluous! In addition to his voice, the actors and experts’ voices make this podcast an incredibly satisfying experience.

I learned so much about Katherine Wright and her invaluable assistance to her brothers and family - professionally & personally. These are just a few powerful insights I took away from this podcast:

Katherine: “More you do for a family, the more they take from you.”
Harry speaking about his step-grandmother, Katherine: “One of her pet peeves was Americans insatiable craving to be entertained rather than educated. ‘Live and let live’ was her philosophy …on one condition: that she had the freedom to be herself.”

I am looking forward to reading Harry Haskell’s book about Katherine Wright, the perfect companion to this podcast: MAIDEN FLIGHT.

The story of an ordinary/extraordinary woman

Fascinating look at the life of Katharine Wright, the younger sister of Wilbur and Orville. The narrative and commentary are wonderful, as are the portions of Katharine’s letters that are read by an actor. I came away with the sense that the Wrights were ordinary people—with big dreams and life challenges and complicated emotions—who accomplished really extraordinary things.

Insightful documentary

A compelling, in-depth, and intimate biography of a woman who was well ahead of her time and whose contributions to a history-changing invention have been shamefully overlooked. The podcasts seamlessly interweave a range of diverse, knowledgeable sources and Katharine’s own words for a discerning look into this complex, fascinating woman. The accompanying soundtrack from that era is a perfect accompaniment!
