Mike Jay is a diehard track & field and cross country fanatic, and when it comes to his garage: it’s a shrine for those sports he loves. Surrounding his grandfather’s 1963 Chevy II are walls covered with memorabilia commemorating the events he has been a part of, signed gifts from athletes/coaches he adores, and press box signage he may or may not have snuck out of the venue in his bag.
So, when it comes to a “studio” to host a track & field and cross county centered podcast – The Garage is the perfect spot! Paityn Noe was a two-time state cross country champion at Ballard High School. She will go after her 2nd 3,000 meter state title this spring and then take her talents to D1 powerhouse, Arkansas in the fall.

Jackson Heidisch - Two-time XC Champion and Dowling Catholic Prep
Jackson Heidisch won two state XC titles at Dowling Catholic and was 5th at NXN this fall. He will be chasing sub 4:00 mile this spring before heading to Duke.

Ford Washburn - Sub 9:00 3200 Little Hawk Prep
Ford Washburn went sub 9:00 in the 3200 last spring, running 8:59 at the Drake Relays. The 3X top 10 finisher at state XC is going to take a shot at sub 8:50 this year before heading to D1 XC cream of the crop, Northern Arizona in the fall.

The first Iowa High School Girls State Cross Country meet was held in 1966, six years prior to Title IX legislation. Margaret Benjamin was the first individual champion, leading her Central Lee High School squad to the first ever team title as well. Take a listen to her great story.
