Increments

There is only so much time, yet a seemingly infinite list of podcast recommendations from all around you. You may think there’s no way you could fit another, and certainly not the chaotic rambling of esoterica that is Increments. But I’m here to tell you, have you thought about when you’re doing the laundry? Or when you’re doing the dishes? Or when you’re mindlessly staring out the window searching for a shred of humanity left in the frozen wasteland of your heart? Or what about when you’re mowing the lawn? All I’ll say is, I was able to find the time, and their clever analysis, unyielding optimism, and endless arguments, made it well worth cutting into my window staring.

If you think of ideas (especially the received kind) as fashion accessories that can’t shield you from the elements (or complexity), look no further. You’ll find the lack of epistemological humility here needed to produce the type of human who thinks “I was just doing my job” is a valid excuse for treating the other as means. The last episode was telling as you could listen to a group of people realizing in real time that when ideas, like facts, are be used only to prop up one’s a priori without the need to take contingencies into account the ethical results vary wildly. Yet they are so well brought up they won’t dare point out their opponent’s ethical rot. They might be able to secure them a job later on. This is what happens when you begin your philosophical journey devoid of any curiosity (aka The Trolley Problem) and believe debate is the highest form of truth deduction. Highly recommended for periodic audits of tech-adjacent, nascent academic sociopathy. Know your frenemy, I guess.
