The Glamour...the Burnout, Favour, Persistence, Continue to Dream | Nefisa Mkhabela and Gaisang Noge

What happens when audiences can't separate the actor from the character? In this special episode of Inside Acting, actresses and friends Nefisa Mkhabela and Gaisang Noge sit down for a warm, candid and hilarious conversation about their journeys in the South African entertainment industry. The two actresses take us back to the first time they met on the set of House of Zwide — when Nefisa was already in her second week of playing Ona and Gaisang had just arrived from the Vaal to take on Mampho, with barely any information about the character waiting for her.Mampho became a character audiences loved to hate. Gaisang recalls what it was like being recognised in public and discovering that some people genuinely didn't like her because of the villain she played. Rather than taking it personally, she recognised it as a sign that she had done her job well. For Nefisa, Ona's popularity brought a very different experience. Strangers would approach her as though she were Ona herself — sometimes even kissing her on the lips! She reflects on the special connection mothers had with Ona and what it meant to become such a beloved character. The friends also open up about the less glamorous side of the profession: exhaustion, fatigue and burnout from moving between sets during long 24-hour working days — while remaining grateful to do the work they love. They revisit some of the roles that have shaped their careers, including:🎬 Nefisa as Lerato in Losing Lerato🎬 Nefisa as Omphile in How To Ruin Love🎬 Gaisang as Naledi in The Wife🎬 Gaisang as Mapaseka in AdultingAnd, of course, there's a little fun along the way as they answer the whimsical question:“When did you feel like… ‘I’ve arrived’?”This is Inside Acting at its best — honest conversations about the craft, the characters, the pressure, the joy and the strange reality of becoming someone audiences feel they know.If you enjoyed this conversation:👍 LIKE the video💬 COMMENT with your favourite moment🔔 SUBSCRIBE to Inside Story Network📲 SHARE it with an actor or aspiring actor who needs to hear this conversation.Inside Acting is a series by Inside Story Network, bringing you honest conversations with the artists shaping South African film, television and theatre.Connect with us:Instagram: @InsideActing_Instagram: @InsideStoryNetwork
