Inside Medic is a podcast dedicated to having informal, unscripted conversations with students about the reality of studying a medical degree in the UK. From finding the 'balance' between work and play to adapting to the hustle and bustle of University life as a medic, we hope to create more of an open culture in prioritising and discussing our mental well-being. DISCLAIMER: We do not own any of the intro/outro music, so special thanks to 'Ax and the Hatchetman', as we've used their song 'Peach trees' in our podcast episodes.

    Episode 6 - Transfer/Foundation year special

    Join Suvarna, your LUSUMA Welfare Officer as she covers the experiences of those joining the course from doing a Foundation year of Medicine at Leicester, or transferring having done another course for a year at Leicester. Not least does this episode highlight the variety in pathways to becoming a Medic, but also that regardless of your pathway joining a Medical degree is most definitely an adjustment of some sorts. We discuss our guests' experiences of settling in and making friends, the importance of prioritising your well-being whilst on the course and much more, so do have a listen if this interests you!

    Episode 5 - All things housing (grrr)

They discuss where they stayed in both their first and second years, and the reasons behind each. Likewise, they discuss the different elements that are important to consider when searching for accommodation beyond first year, not least finding suitable housemates.     Episode 4 - Grad student's special!

    Join Suvarna, your LUSUMA Welfare Officer, as talks to 4 graduate students about settling into University round two. From navigating the various pressures of Medical school, to getting stuck into University life again, no stone is left unturned in this episode! Moreover, motivation to keep going when you find yourself in a slump is something we reflect on, alongside the importance of putting yourself 'out there' when it comes to making friends. In summary, this is definitely an episode to listen to whether you're a graduate/mature student or not.

    Episode 3 - 'Belbin/Study Group' special!

    Join Suvarna, your LUSUMA Welfare Officer as she has takes a trip down memory lane with her 'Belbin/Study Group'. Having spent the past 2 years with this group, it's safe to say there have been plenty of memories made. We discuss how we met, first impressions, the study dynamic and the relationship that we fostered both inside and outside of group work. This episode is definitely one to listen to if you're wanting a taste of how we managed to get the most out of scheduled group work time, or looking for some inspiration on what fun things you can do to bond with your study group. Likewise, we also discuss individual struggles we came across during our Medic lives and how we overcame them, as well as the importance of building a support network whilst at Medical school.     Episode 2 - International student special!

    Join Suvarna, your LUSUMA Welfare Officer, as she takes a moment to explore the International experience with her peers. In this episode, we delve into what it's like to join University from overseas - from living miles away from home and the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with that, to how the students integrated into their year group and adjusted to University life in Leicester. Plus, if you're looking for helpful pointers on where to buy certain groceries, what helped these students' get the so-called 'balance' between work and play and fun things to get involved in at University, this episode is right up your street!

All jokes aside, we touch on our apprehensions as Freshers, how we overcame them, what we learnt on the go, and some hacks that helped us along the way.
