Untangling Security and Privacy in IoT

The IoT Business Show is brought to you by the Iot-Inc Certified IoT Professional (ICIP) online training & certification program: http://www.iot-inc.com/training

Security and privacy are uttered together so often that many believe they’re the same thing. They’re not. Security is a technical issue and privacy is a business issue, and furthermore, privacy is only one type of liability that should be considered when talking IoT security. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I add a bit of sharpness to the security and privacy narrative.

Legal Limbo – Doing IoT Business in the Gray

The IoT Business Show is brought to you by the Iot-Inc Certified IoT Professional (ICIP) online training & certification program: http://www.iot-inc.com/training

What’s the legal definition of a product? Does it cover IoT and is IoT classified a product or a service? Given our laws were never designed for the types of products being sold today, it’s not surprising that there are different interpretations of our current laws and regulations when it comes to IoT. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Ron Quirk and Alex Schneider about the legal limbo we’re in and how the legal landscape is evolving to catch up with the times.

When we buy an IoT Product for our home or our business, the advice is the same: read the fine print. There are plenty of technical obstacles that can be thrown in your way to stop you from having complete control over your data but sometimes the devil is in the details and these contractual details can have a major effect on your business. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Johannes Ernst about the IoT Overloads and the upcoming data showdown.

Privacy by Design in the Internet of Things

Privacy by Design in the Internet of Things

The IoT Business Show is brought to you by the Iot-Inc Certified IoT Professional (ICIP) online training & certification program: http://www.iot-inc.com/training

Repeat this mantra: Privacy by Design, Privacy by Design. Although, Security by Design is a best practice followed by IoT companies in the know, its business counterpart, related to risk, isn’t chanted nearly as often as it should be. Privacy by Design should be repeated with every second breath. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Paul Plofchan about Privacy by Design and other privacy best practices.

Treat IoT Privacy Like Digital Mayonnaise

The IoT Business Show is brought to you by the Iot-Inc Certified IoT Professional (ICIP) online training & certification program: http://www.iot-inc.com/training

Although an integral part of IoT security, IoT privacy doesn’t rely on technology. It relies instead on self-imposed business rules that govern the way the collected data is used within and outside of the enterprise. As with many things tech, government and law is unable to keep up with the innovation of IoT and with what some call its digital exhaust. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with privacy expert Dale Smith about the top 5 best practices in handling personally identifiable information (PII) and other IoT privacy issues.

Excellent IoT themed podcast and highly recommended!

I first came across this podcast through one of Bruce's IoT modules on Linkedin and have been an avid subscriber ever since. There are three main aspects to the podcast that I think provide the most value:

1. High level overview of IoT architectures that Bruce provides through his Linkedin modules, podcasts and website
2. Discussion with industry leads who are actively developing IoT solutions for their end users.
3. Overview of adjacent technologies such as AI and ML to not only get a better sense of what it involves, but also discuss the integration of these technologies with IoT.

I highly recommend this podcast to anyone who is interested in IoT technologies. It does'nt really matter if you are a beginner or already an experienced user in this space- this podcast definitely provides something of value for everyone.
