Can You Hear Me?

Interview Communications Best Practices: Advice from Marketing Agency Leaders

Best Practice Advice

  • Research the company and apply this information within your conversations and interactions with team members.
  • Present yourself strongly in your cover letter by reflecting your research about the company and how you align well with the culture.
  • Interact with the company's social posts, blogs, and members of the team.
  • Be professional in your attire and space (especially if you are remotely interviewing).
  • Demonstrate that you fit within company values and qualifications during your interview.
    • Do not oversell your skills, especially if you are less experienced but willing to learn.
  • Rehearse the way you pitch your skills and experience before your interview. Do some mock interviewing with a friend.
  • Ask smart questions, they make lasting impressions!
    • Know your audience when asking questions. For example, don't ask the CEO an HR question and vice versa.
  • Your interview minutes are precious-  excessive casual conversation robs you of your chance to make a lasting impression!
  • Follow up immediately after the interview- write a note to the interviewer and mention high points of your conversation, also reiterate why you would be a great fit for the position!
