Interview With "Belén" Filmmaker & Star Dolores Fonzi

"Belén" is an Argentine historical legal drama film directed by and starring Dolores Fonzi from a screenplay she co-wrote with Laura Paredes, Agustina San Martín, and Nicolás Britos. It is based on the non-fiction book Somos Belén by Ana Correa, which follows a lawyer's quest for justice when her client is falsely imprisoned for committing an illegal abortion. The film has been selected as the Argentine entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. Fonzi was kind enough to spend time speaking with us about her work and experience making the film, which you can listen to below. Interview With "Nuremberg" Star Rami Malek & Filmmaker James Vanderbilt

"Nuremberg" is an American historical drama film written, co-produced, and directed by James Vanderbilt. It is based on the 2013 book "The Nazi and the Psychiatrist" by Jack El-Hai and tells the story of a psychiatrist, Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek), who is challenged with determining if Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe) is fit to stand trial at the Nuremberg trials. Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O'Brien, Colin Hanks, Wrenn Schmidt, Lydia Peckham, Richard E. Grant, and Michael Shannon have supporting roles in the film. The film's world premiere was in the Gala Presentations section of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto, where it received positive reviews and a four-minute standing ovation, one of TIFF's longest standing ovations ever. Interview With "Tinsman Road" Filmmaker Robbie Banfitch

"Tinsman Road" is a found-footage horror thriller directed by Robbie Banfitch, who also stars in the film. Set in the backwoods of New Jersey, the film follows a young man as he investigates the mysterious disappearance of his sister and returns to his family's secluded home. The film employs slow-burn dread, utilizing quiet, naturalistic pacing to build tension in a found footage style, and has received very positive notices during its festival run. "Nouvelle Vague"

Love this podcast. After I watch a movie, I usually come look for their convo. There is a lot of Bayer hate in the reviews here. I really like him. I agree that they could benefit from adding some more diverse voices, or switching up more who is in the convo. I really enjoy when they don’t agree. It makes for the best conversations. Brendan Hodges is always a good dissenting voice from the normal team rotation. I’m not a huge fan of Gio, but to each their own. I’m often amused at how much I often disagree with Matt Neglia, but I really appreciate the way he can keep the convo going and listen to other opinions. It’s my fave post movie podcast bc I don’t really have “movie friends” who love them like I do. So this podcast is one of a few that fill that void for me. I feel like I’m checking in with friends for a great, thoughtful convo about them! And most importantly, they love them like I do!

Review is based on specifically the “Smashing Machine” episode. Too many cooks in the kitchen, no real insightful thoughts, and the one host with vocal fry genuinely made me pause at 38mins and stop listening altogether. Not every voice needs a podcast!
Great podcast for keeping with the awards races; Awful film criticism.

Please please stop saying “unless if….” and “also too….” at the beginning of sentences. A major issue with the pod is the hosts’ lack of eloquence and coherence when it comes to reviewing films. Phrases like “I enjoyed myself,” “I had a good time,” or “I was intrigued” - are excessively abundant and offer little to no insight whatsoever. It plainly seems that their criticism is hampered by the fact that they just don’t want to say anything negative about a movie out of fear of losing access to the industry. Some reviews are so disingenuous (e.g. Materialists, Weapons) - it’s truly baffling to listen to the hosts “intellectually” pretzeling their way into a conclusion about a film that they had already a preconceived notion about. This podcast is really insightful when it comes to keeping up with the major awards races, as the hosts do indeed very closely follow the trends and understand the mechanics happening behind the curtains.
Yes I'll listen weekly, however..
