The Art of Costume Podcast

UPDATE: I listened to a few more episodes, and I think my initial review was too harsh. The hosts maybe just needed some practice and experience. The new eps are much better. They ask more thoughtful questions, and they really do get such good guests! Even when they don’t have a guest, the episodes are fun because of how specific they get about costume details. Good job, y’all! ORIGINAL: Fascinating topic, interesting guests, but the hosts are a couple of DING DONGS. They’re like that old Chris Farley fawning-talk-show-host character crossed with one of those dolls where you pull the string to hear them say one of 5 phrases: “I’m obsessed!” “It’s so good!” “I love that!” And when they DO ask questions, they don’t show any insight or critical thinking. It’s like “How excited were you to design for that episode?” Pffft. AND THEY TALK SO SLOW and GIGGLE SO MUCH. Sigh. I really wanted to love this show, but OOF.

The guests are often amazing but the hosts can’t seem to think of anything insightful to ask or analyze. It’s a bit cringey to listen to them yap a lot but say very little.

I found this podcast or TikTok and watching them in 20 second spirits was amazing. I really thought I was signing up for some great information from people that love movies. It’s very hard to listen to when there’s this constant issue of not getting a cultural reference or mispronouncing somebody’s name or making references to other things that don’t necessarily make sense. I would like them to do better, but I’ve given it enough shots. I’m taking it off my queue.

Entertaining, informative, and well produced. It is clear these folks are passionate about costumes and I’m passionate about this podcast! Nobody is doing it like them. I look forward to every episode and greatly appreciate the lengths which they go to research and discuss each topic. The interviews are all superb. Hands down, this is my favorite show. Recommend for anyone interested in costume design, or otherwise!
