First off, big shoutouts to Kathlynn and Patricia. This is an important thing you guys are doing and I hope you always remember that. The first time I listened to this podcast I thought it was really cute and an easy listen when I had free time. But then I started to listen while walking my pup and that’s when it hit me. Not only is this podcast genuinely enjoyable to listen to, but it’s such a relief to listen to something where the overall theme just gets you right in the heart every time: Representation Matters. As a fellow Asian American, I obviously grew up watching television where I rarely saw people who “looked like me.” And if I did, let’s be honest, they were either an extra or if we got lucky, maybe the “sidekick best friend.” But of course never the LEAD. So I absolutely love listening to these stories about Asians breaking through and changing that. The way this podcast dissects these differing yet similar topics about Asians on television is done so in a way that is not only entertaining, but also authentic. It’s not just listening to Kathlynn and Patricia give their own opinions about this show or that character. It’s real conversations about something people never really talked about. There can be other Asians on television besides Jackie Chan and Jet Li guys (but I still love both actors so much). Also, both hosts literally make me laugh out loud because that’s how real it feels. It’s as if I’m sitting right there in front of them and sometimes I even reply back because that’s just how good they are! I know I’m not the only one who grew up not seeing “themselves” played on television. But I’m really happy you guys are talking about it. Can’t wait to keep on listening!

Kathlynn and Patricia show off their chemistry immediately with their inaugural episode of InvasianTV. With a mixture of banter from the two of them, the influence characters have on them their whole lives and how these actors are portrayed rightfully or wrongfully by their actual race in the shows they work in. In this first episode the two hosts shed light on the token Asians cast members, showing their points of view and also an in depth breaking of the fourth wall commentary from lesser known interviews from the actors themselves. Approximately a half hour of podcasting and the several shows they spoke about are still making rotations in my thought process. Although this was only the first episode, it shows the amount of untapped discourse left to be brought up. I’m personally excited to see the format they have hold this consistency, as they have much information to still be refined for their listeners to enjoy. InvasianTV feels casual, succinct and most importantly, feels like two friends enjoying what they’re doing. Side note: the music and the improvisational spirit is super cute. A definite strong start to this series.
