Irish with Mollie
Explore the cultural and psychological phenomenon of language and learning - how Irish has faded from our tongues but we're ready to gobble it back up. The word "gobble" comes from Irish! Let's talk to fresh talent bringing Irishness to a new level - musicians, historians, linguists, spiritual teachers, artists, activists and thinkers. There'll be a cúpla focal. There'll be wisdom and storytelling, a few life lessons and a few Irish lessons. Éist linn!

As someone reconnecting with their Irish ancestry and heritage, I’ve been in search of podcasts that talk, specifically, about all things Irish - I may have procrastinated listening to this one, but I finally listened to one of the episodes and I actually love it! Mollie is very engaging - which is perfect for me because I tend to get bored of things if it’s not engaging - and fun to listen to! She covered so many topics, as well, and I loved all of it! Defo listen to this one! It’s worth it!

June 2024: Original review below from January…..I’m adding an update here because it’s just getting better and better. I’ve been listening to Mollie’s podcasts for about 6 months now, and they are really magical. Mollie talks to singers, historians, instrumentalists, artists, linguists, and every day people about issues of culture, language, art, the colonialist mindset, learning theory, sex and sexuality, and more. In summary, there is literally nothing off limits in this podcast. What makes Mollie’s podcast so special is that she actually ALLOWS HER GUESTS TO SPEAK! I know! Novel idea! She lets thought leaders from many disciplines share their special corners of the world with her, which she then so generously shares with us. She doesn’t talk over them. She actually allows them to answer questions, but perhaps even more poignantly, she allows them to take the conversation in the direction that feels most organic and real to them. And that’s when you feel the magic happening. Absolutely wonderful. January 2024: If you have followed Mollie online at all, you will have thought to yourself that she REALLY needs a podcast. Well, the wait is over! The challenge for me is that with more and more great content being put out there every day, it becomes more and more difficult to pick the creators that I want to prioritize due to limited available time. Well, Mollie’s long-awaited podcast is NO-BRAINER for me, and moves to the TOP OF THE SCHEDULE. Mollie is an Irish language teacher who has created a series of extensive and innovative courses for learning the language. The courses are quite groundbreaking, really reimagining how Irish can be taught…playfully, beautifully, and with relevance. (She has developed methods of teaching that should be in use in every classroom in Ireland!) She ALSO has a HUGE online social presence, in which she provides nuggets of Irish language education and wisdom every day! But I think what’s REALLY SPECIAL about this podcast is that it’s not simply an extension of her courses and teaching. This feels much bigger. It involves bringing in thought leaders on language, learning, education, and communication in general for lively conversation about these topics in true high-energy-Mollie style! Mollie’s passion for Irish goes beyond the language. I think of her as a student of learning, perfecting her approach to teaching by learning about learning! What I like about this podcast is that Mollie understands how to elicit the most out of her guests, gracefully drawing out their beautiful contributions and accomplishments in their areas of expertise, like a conductor of an orchestra. This podcast is going to be huge over time. I’m thrilled with it.
