Is My Acne Hormonal?

theholisticskindetective

Is your acne really hormonal? Or are we skipping the one step that actually explains it? Twenty years working one-to-one with clients taught me this: acne doesn't clear with detox fads, 'clean eating,' or harsher cosmeceuticals. It clears when you find the driver. There are 6 of them. Each one shows up in a different breakout pattern — and once you know yours, you stop guessing. So instead of diving for the next quick fix, let's start where the answer actually is — where you break out. Cheeks? Chin? Forehead? That location isn't random. It's your body pointing toward a trigger — internal or external. This podcast is about reading those patterns and understanding your body first. We deep dive into the triggers quietly imbalancing your systems — so you stop overlooking the clues your skin has been trying to send you, and avoid quick fixes, fads and trends. Ready to find your breakout pattern and the specific trigger behind it? You'll find it through the links in shownotes.

Episode 008 Part Two: Emotional Eating, Root Causes, and Why Awareness Changes Everything with Sophia Lightfoot

PART TWO: Many of us know what we should be eating - but still find ourselves stuck in patterns we can’t shift. In Part 2 of my conversation with Sophia Lightfoot, we go deeper into the emotional landscape behind eating habits. We explore how grief, stress, unmet needs, and early experiences can all shape our relationship to food - and how becoming aware of these deeper drivers is often the key to transformation. Together, we begin to unravel why the body holds on — to weight, to cravings, and to emotion - and how that can show up through the skin. Episode 007 Part One: How Hypnosis Can Shift Your Relationship With Food with Sophia Lightfoot

It’s the New Year, and food goals are on our minds. Speaking with Sophia Lightfoot, a rapid transformation specialist who helps women with weight loss, I explore what can sabotage our progress and how she supports women to overcome it. Certain foods, particularly specific combinations of foods, can challenge our digestive system in ways that directly affect skin health. I see this often in women who are struggling with hormonal acne alongside other acne types within my KD-SI framework. Changing food habits, however, is not always easy. That is why I wanted to speak with Sophia, to explore how we can better understand and gently reframe our relationship with food on a deeper level. Part One and Part Two are available wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts. If you find yourself constantly sabotaging your efforts to give up certain foods ....  READ: Sophia's Book " Simple AND Sustainable Weight Loss for Women" Available on Amazon.  ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you've been piecing together skincare tips, diet changes, and hormone advice but your skin still isn't improving, this is your sign to step back and rethink the generic approaches. Episode 006: When Stress Shows On The Skin - Part Two

Welcome to The Holistic Skin Detective™ — a podcast designed to help you understand what your skin is really trying to tell you. After more than two decades working in natural skin health, I began noticing something remarkable: most breakouts follow specific, repeatable patterns. Each pattern has its own set of underlying triggers — internal or environmental — that point directly to where healing needs to begin. I documented these findings and developed the KD-SI™ Framework — an educational system that helps you identify your unique skin pattern and uncover the root causes behind your acne. It's the first step toward working with your skin, rather than turning to harsh or temporary fixes. These episodes are designed for those who've taken the Acne Type Quiz and are diving deeper into their own Holistic Skin Detective™ journey. In this episode, we continue to explore how stress influences the skin through the digestive system and why learning to process emotional tension can help your breakouts calm down naturally. You'll discover: How the body shifts between fight-or-flight and rest-and-digest Why emotional tension can block the skin's natural elimination cycles Gentle reflection tools to release stress safely and bring your system back into balance If you've ever felt like stress is your biggest skin trigger, this episode is for you. ✨ Download your Stress & Skin Journal Prompts — a free guided reflection to help you regulate your nervous system, clear your head, and begin restoring balance. 👉 Download Here Your skin isn't betraying you — it's communicating. Episode 005: Stress , Safety and the Skin. Part One.

Determined to preserve note within current project context   Determined to preserve note within current project context   Noted — flagging it here so it's captured before we lose it in the episode-by-episode flow: Note for the brief rewrite: "Dominant pattern" needs to be formally defined as a concept distinct from simple breakout patterns. Simple patterns trace to a single imbalance/trigger; complex patterns are layered and involve multiple triggers, with one "dominant pattern" emerging as the primary driver among several. This is flagged as where the practitioner's work leads next — i.e., simple pattern identification (Types One–Six, current podcast/quiz focus) is the entry point, and complex/dominant pattern work is the natural progression beyond it. This distinction should likely map onto the brief's Stage progression (possibly sitting between Stage 4 KD-SI and Stage 5 Living KD-SI, or as an advanced tier within KD-SI itself) rather than being introduced at Stage 1–3 where the current messaging lives. I'll carry this forward when we get to the brief. For now — send Episode 4 whenever you're ready, and same template applies.   this is a welcome. i think i can go further in depth on my why and how I created kd si which is an educational framework (important to distinguish - again for brief) as I dont want people thinking they can critique it as gospel. Episode 1: Welcome to Is My Acne Hormonal? In this very first episode, I’m introducing myself—Krystina Dion, The Holistic Skin Detective—and sharing the story behind this podcast. You’ll hear about my own journey with skin struggles, how I developed my KD-SI framework, and why I’m so passionate about helping you uncover the real reasons behind your breakouts. I’ll walk you through what you can expect from this podcast, how to use it as a resource on your own skin detective journey, and why looking at acne through a holistic lens can finally give you the clarity you’ve been searching for. Whether you’ve tried everything and still feel stuck, or you’re just beginning to explore the connection between hormones and your skin, this episode is your official invitation to step into detective mode with me. In 20 years of observing breakout patterns, I've learned that each pattern isn't just a location — it points to a specific trigger. Ready to find your breakout pattern and the specific trigger behind it? Start here and find out what your skin's been trying to show you. Note for the brief rewrite: KD-SI must be positioned explicitly as an educational framework — a lens/tool for understanding patterns and triggers — not as a fixed clinical protocol or diagnostic "gospel" open to the same kind of critique a medical claim would invite. This distinction matters for liability/credibility (avoids "prove it" framing common to therapeutic claims) and for tone (invites people into a way of observing, not a system to be right or wrong). Likely belongs near the Stage 4 description in the brief, alongside wherever KD-SI is first formally defined — worth a sentence in the core positioning too, not just a footnote. Since this is the welcome episode specifically, want me to take a pass at expanding the body copy itself to go deeper on the why/how of creating KD-SI (given you mentioned wanting more depth here), or are you drafting that part yourself and just wanted the CTA swapped for now?   have you also made a note of our guard rails?     Inventoried noted guardrails and sought clarification on additional constraints   Inventoried noted guardrails and sought clarification on additional constraints   I've captured one so far — the KD-SI as educational framework, not gospel/clinical protocol point from your last message. That's the only one explicitly flagged as a "note for the brief" in this thread. If there are other guardrails that came out of the other thread (the messaging rebuild work), I won't have those in front of me — I only have this conversation plus the briefing document you uploaded. If you want them consolidated into one running list before we write the new brief, it'd be worth either: pasting in the guardrails from that other thread so I can merge them, or listing them out now from memory, and I'll add them to the notes queue alongside the "educational framework" and "dominant pattern" flags already sitting there. Want to do that now, or keep moving through the remaining episodes and consolidate all the brief notes at the end?   we have a list of these too. I will find them and put them into a document for you to use for the brief   Sounds good — whenever you've got that document ready, share it and I'll fold it in alongside the two notes already queued (the "dominant pattern" concept and the "KD-SI as educational framework" guardrail) when we write the new brief. In the meantime, send through the next episode whenever you're ready and I'll keep applying the same template.   Episode 5 — Stress, Safety, and the Skin: How Modern Life Keeps Us in Fight or Flight Have you ever noticed your skin flare up after a stressful week? In this episode, we explore how chronic stress affects the body — and why your skin is often the first to show the signs. Krystina shares what really happens inside the body when we’re stuck in “fight or flight,” and how this constant state of alert slows digestion, blocks detox pathways, and leads to skin congestion and breakouts. You’ll learn why rest and digest is the body’s true healing state, why “detoxing” isn’t always the answer, and how small daily shifts — like slowing down, breathing deeply, and reconnecting with joy — can calm both your nervous system and your skin. If you’ve ever felt like you can’t catch a break, this episode is your reminder that healing starts with stillness. ✨ Listen now and learn how your body’s safety system connects to your skin’s health. This change ensures that the information you receive truly aligns with your skin’s unique story. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you’ve been piecing together skincare tips, diet changes, and hormone advice but your skin still isn’t improving, this is your sign to step back and rethink the generic approaches. Episode 003: Simple vs Complex Skin Types within the KD-SI Framework

Episode 3 – Simple vs. Complex: Understanding Skin Through the KD-SI Framework Why won't my skin settle? If you've tried all the products, maybe even seen a practitioner or two, and are still searching for answers, this episode is for you. In today's conversation, I dive into one of the most important distinctions within the KD-SI framework: simple vs. complex skin types. Simple skin patterns often trace back to a single imbalance — something we can identify, address, and gently restore. But complex skin is different. These patterns are layered, stubborn, and increasingly common in today's world. I'll share: What defines a simple vs. complex skin profile Why modern life is contributing to more complex skin presentations How the KD-SI framework can help you identify your skin's "dominant pattern" Why listening to your skin's language is far more powerful than chasing symptoms Treating acne topically isn't about harsher products or quick fixes - it's about learning to work with your body's intelligence, not against it. By tuning into your skin as a messenger, you can begin the process of real healing — from the inside out. If you've been piecing together skincare tips, diet changes, and hormone advice but your skin still isn't improving, this is your sign to step back and rethink the generic approaches.
