    Article 7: When "Palestinian" Legally Meant a Jew — The British Mandate, the 1925 Citizenship Order, and the 1964 Rewrite

    In 1922 the League of Nations wrote the Mandate for Palestine. Article 7 of that document instructed Britain to pass a nationality law framed so as to facilitate the acquisition of Palestinian citizenship by Jews taking up permanent residence in Palestine. Palestinian citizenship. By Jews. It is four lines of text, it is quoted by Palestinian legal scholars and Israeli historians alike, and it is not disputed by anyone. This episode walks through the documents that defined who was and was not a Palestinian, in the order they were written. We cover where the name Palestine actually comes from, including the Greek usage recorded by Herodotus in the fifth century before the common era and the Roman renaming of the province of Judea to Syria Palaestina in the second century, along with the genuine historical dispute over whether that renaming was punishment or routine administration. We cover the Palestinian Citizenship Order of 1925, which made Jews, Muslims and Christians in the territory citizens under a single legal status with no test of race or religion, and the oath of loyalty to the Government of Palestine sworn by Jewish immigrants from Poland and Germany. We cover how the word was used in ordinary life. The Palestine Post newspaper, later renamed the Jerusalem Post. The Palestine Symphony Orchestra, later renamed the Israel Philharmonic. The Palestine Regiment of the British Army, formed in 1942 from three Jewish battalions and one Arab battalion. We cover United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181, the partition plan of 1947, which created an Arab State and a Jewish State and contains no Palestinian state, and whose voting clause treats Palestinian citizenship as a status separate from being Arab or Jewish. And we cover the Palestinian National Charter written by the Palestine Liberation Organization after its founding by the Arab League in 1964, where the word is fenced to Arab nationals for the first time, with an explicit written exception for certain Jews. The counter arguments are addressed directly rather than avoided. The Arabic newspaper Falastin was published in Jaffa from 1911, eleven years before the Mandate. The historian Rashid Khalidi has argued that a distinct Palestinian Arab identity was forming well before 1948. Neither of those facts is in dispute here, and neither of them changes what the documents say. The claim in this episode is narrow and it is checkable.     Why Netanyahu Told Kushner No: Inside the Four-Hour Gaza Disarmament Meeting

    0n August 16, 2026, Jared Kushner met Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya in Egypt. The next day he spent almost four hours with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Netanyahu said no. T his episode walks through the full sequence and the documents most of the coverage skipped.  Everyone in this story has agreed that Hamas should disarm. Hamas signed the roadmap. The Board of Peace says Hamas promised to hand over every weapon and stop rebuilding tunnels. The disagreement is entirely about order. Hamas officials say weapons go to a Palestinian technocratic body only after the Israel Defense Forces withdraw. Israel says disarmament comes first, then everything else. In this episode: Why Netanyahu told his cabinet on August 9 that Israel does not accept the fifteen-point document, and what he meant by real disarmament rather than fictitious disarmament. The August third statement from the Board of Peace, which said Israeli forces would not pull back past the Yellow Line until Hamas weapons were fully decommissioned — six days before Netanyahu was accused of blowing up the same plan. What the two working groups announced after the Jerusalem meeting actually do, and why forming a committee is what happens when two sides cannot agree. The verification problem nobody is asking about.     Shin Bet Chief David Zini Warns of a "Diplomatic October 7" in Gaza

    Shin Bet Director David Zini warned Israel's security cabinet that Hamas sees the Board of Peace roadmap for Gaza as a "diplomatic October 7" — a way to win politically what it failed to win militarily, and to run out the clock until Israel's election on October 27, 2026. This episode explains what Zini told ministers, why Israel has still not signed the fifteen-point roadmap, and what disarmament would actually have to look like for the plan to mean anything. The roadmap was published by United States President Donald Trump's Board of Peace. It sets out the second phase in Gaza: Hamas hands its weapons to a Palestinian technocratic committee, an International Stabilization Force deploys, and Israel withdraws in stages. Hamas has accepted it and has asked Washington to press Israel to begin implementing it. Israel has not. The Jerusalem Post and Walla both report that Jerusalem has neither signed nor formally approved the document. The immediate dispute is over a proposed fourteen-day preparatory period, which would require Israel to restrict military operations, including targeted strikes on Hamas operatives. Ministers reportedly opposed entering it. Zini's remarks come from Israel Hayom and Ynet reporting on a closed security cabinet meeting held on August 6, 2026. He is said to have described the agreement as a process of strategic deception intended to keep Israel from resuming military action before the vote. These are leaked accounts of a private meeting, not on-the-record statements, and the episode treats them that way throughout. Also discussed: the contradiction between the Board of Peace's original framing, in which Israeli withdrawal happens alongside Hamas disarmament, and high representative Nickolay Mladenov's later statement that withdrawal follows full disarmament; the assessment from Ofir Mizrahi-Rozen, who heads the research department of Israeli Military Intelligence, that Hamas agreed to the plan without abandoning its goal of destroying Israel; the framework for the International Stabilization Force and objections to possible Turkish and Qatari participation; pressure on Israel to pull back from roughly seventy percent of Gaza to the fifty-two percent Yellow Line; and the parallel Hezbollah disarmament talks in Lebanon, where two Israeli reservists were killed by a roadside bomb in the same week that American officials described the process as progressing.     Iran Called Hamas the Same Day Trump Said "Deal Is Imminent"

    Iran's president called the new head of Hamas the same day Donald Trump said a nuclear deal was imminent. On August 3, 2026, Masoud Pezeshkian phoned Khalil al-Hayya to congratulate him on his election to lead Hamas's political bureau and, according to Hamas's own Arabic statement, pledged support for "every action you take." That was the same day Trump called Iran's leadership "unbelievably duplicitous" on Truth Social and told reporters in the Oval Office that he wanted to give Tehran "every last chance before decapitation." This episode walks through the weekend that produced all of it. Trump called off a strike on Iran that he described as the biggest attack since World War Two, saying Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Iranian officials had asked him to hold off. He then laid out a two-phase deal: full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz first, denuclearization later. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei answered that there are no negotiations with the United States at all, only talks with Oman about the Strait. American officials told CBS that no new negotiations were scheduled beyond an existing indirect channel. Three accounts of one weekend, and the pattern behind them. Since April, Trump has called off strikes on Iran five separate times in favor of diplomacy. The Islamabad talks collapsed. The June memorandum brokered by Pakistan was followed by renewed Iranian attacks on shipping in July. Through every ceasefire and framework, Iranian support for Hamas and Hezbollah never stopped.     Article 9: The Clause That Lets Hamas Keep Its Rifles

    Donald Trump announced a "historic" Board of Peace agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas in Gaza. Within forty-eight hours, Hamas was reportedly distributing rifles to its own operatives — and not in violation of the deal. In line with it. This episode goes through the 15-point roadmap clause by clause, including the paragraph almost nobody has covered: Article 9, which places personal weapons in Gaza under a licensing regime rather than decommissioning them, and names the new Palestinian transitional authority as the body that issues the licenses. Nickolay Mladenov, High Representative for Gaza, released the roadmap after months of negotiations at El-Alamein, Egypt, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States under UN Security Council Resolution 2803. It transfers civilian and security governance to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, supported by the International Stabilization Force under US General Jasper Jeffers, with each stage certified by an International Verification Committee.     Iran Strike Cancelled: Trump's Sixth Reversal Since March

    Trump cancelled the planned US strikes on Iran on Saturday, August 1, 2026, one day after reports that Washington and Israel were preparing one of the harshest bombing campaigns of the war against Iranian energy infrastructure. He said Iran and other regional countries asked him to hold off because a deal framework had been agreed. Iran did not confirm it. This episode counts the delays — six since the 48-hour Hormuz ultimatum in March — and asks what repeated cancelled strikes do to deterrence. Then the Gaza half. The Board of Peace published its 15-point disarmament roadmap on July 31. The weapons don't leave Gaza. They get stored under a new Palestinian committee that doesn't exist yet, on a three-year timeline, under a detailed plan that hasn't been written. Trump said Israel is very happy with it. Netanyahu's office said it doesn't meet Israel's demand for full demilitarization. Both statements are on the record. And the detail that ties it together: Axios reported that IRGC officials urged a Hamas delegation in Tehran not to rush into signing, and to play for time. Hamas signed anyway.     The 1922 Document That Breaks the "Occupation" Argument

    Eight governments called the West Bank "occupied" this week. Not one of them can tell you who it was occupied from. That's the whole episode. In late July 2026, after Israel announced further settlement expansion, eight Muslim-majority countries issued a joint statement condemning what they called unlawful Israeli sovereignty over occupied territory. The word "occupied" ran in every headline. The words "from whom" ran in none. So we open the documents instead. Six of them. The San Remo Resolution of 1920. The 1922 Mandate for Palestine, whose Article 6 committed the administration to encourage close settlement by Jews on the land. The Transjordan memorandum of September 1922, which withheld those provisions east of the river — meaning the zone where Article 6 applied is precisely the territory now called the West Bank. Article 80 of the UN Charter, nicknamed the Palestine Clause, which Ben-Gurion told a UN committee in 1947 was adopted for that very reason. UN Resolution 181, the 1947 Partition Plan, which describes the region in the UN's own words as the hill country of Samaria and Judea. And the 1949 Israel–Jordan Armistice, whose Article VI states the line was drawn without prejudice to future boundaries — the clause the Arab states themselves demanded, because they refused to let the Green Line become a border. Then the part nobody covers. In 1948, Jordan's Arab Legion took the territory. At Kfar Etzion, 127 people were killed, some after they had surrendered. Four survived. Fifty-eight synagogues in the Old City were destroyed or desecrated. On the Mount of Olives, roughly 38,000 graves were smashed and the headstones used to pave roads. By 1949 there was not one Jew left between Hebron and Jenin. Jordan's annexation was recognized by essentially two countries. The world said nothing for nineteen years. The territory changed hands in 1967, and international law was discovered overnight. The International Court of Justice ruled against this reading in 2024. That's a real argument and serious people sit on both sides of it. But you don't get to call it settled law and refuse to open the file. Every document named here is public and free.     The History They Don't Teach You About Israel

    Seventy-seven years. One remarkably consistent pattern. This is the full story of every war Israel did not start — and every one it finished. From the 1948 partition vote to Trump's 20-Point Plan, we walk the entire timeline and name the thing nobody says out loud: the FAFO Doctrine. PART 1 — 1948: The UN votes to split the land.
