  2. Do young people just need to 'toughen up'?

    NOV 17

Do young people just need to 'toughen up'?

Content/trigger warning: mention of suicide In this episode, Mandy, Head of Children and Young People at Everyturn, sits down with Pasha, Strategy and Development Director at Everyturn, to explore young people’s mental health. They discuss why today’s young people are more open about their mental health—and why that openness is such a positive step forward. At Everyturn, we know that talking about how we're feeling can have a really positive impact on our own mental health, and often helps others feel more able to open up too. Opening up about how we feel can improve our wellbeing and help us access the right support when we need it most. 3. Asking the question – are you feeling suicidal?

    NOV 10

Asking the question – are you feeling suicidal?

In this episode, Luke, Service Manager in our NHS 111 Initial Response Service chats to Kate, Head of Strategy and Communications at Everyturn, about some of the signs to look out for if someone is thinking of taking their life, how ask someone if they’re feeling suicidal, and what to do if they say yes. A conversation could be life-saving! It’s important to feel able to start a conversation with someone that you’re worried about, in a judgment free, safe space. Sometimes we might worry that we’ll make someone feel worse by asking them if they’re suicidal, but it’s important to be direct. Asking directly can make the person feel more able to open up. If you’d like to feel more comfortable talking about suicide, and want to know what to do if you’re ever in the situation of supporting someone who is feeling suicidal, we’d really recommend Zero Suicide Alliance’s online Suicide Awareness training course. It’s a short, free course that can be taken by anyone: https://zerosuicidealliance.com/  If you or someone you know is struggling, you could contact the following helplines ⬇️    Samaritans (24/7):  Call 116 123  Visit website: www.samaritans.org Shout (24/7): Text ‘SHOUT’ to 85258 Visit website: www.giveusashout.org NHS 111 (24/7): Call 111 and press option 2 Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) (5pm to midnight): Call 0800 58 58 58 Visit website: www.thecalmzone.net/suicide-prevention-helpline For more ideas, visit: www.everyturn.org/get-urgent-help/  Thank you for listening to It's All Mental, a podcast by Everyturn Mental Health 🎙 Make sure to visit our Advice Hub, and find us on social media!
