As a rock-ribbed MST3K fan, I’ve checked out every podcast dedicated to the show. Each one is amusing but filled with empty calories. You don’t gain any more insight than you would by simply watching the show yourself.
It’s Just a Show, on the other hand, is the podcast that MST3K deserves — witty, entertaining, enlightening, and providing cultural and cinematic context. Without taking the show too seriously, it demonstrates humorous intellect that reflects the show it analizes, criticizes, and celebrates.
With better production value, more extensive research, and a clear-eyed view of what makes the show relevant nearly 30 years after the Satellite of Love was launched into space, It's Just a Show expands the Mystery Science universe.
The single fault I have found is the missed opportunity from “Teenagers from Outer Space,” which overlooked my all-time favorite moment of the show: Joel points out that Tom Servo’s homemade Pegasus is actually a cow. Tom innocently asks, “Does it really make a difference?” to which Joel responds, “Nah, I don’t think so,” reminding each of us that everything will be all right.
Keep up the great work.
