It's Not Even Like That

Pavar Snipe

It’s Not Even Like That is a comedic podcast that examines how the media depicts disability and smacks it in the face with a dose of reality. What is it like to be disabled? Judging from TV and film, disabled people are: angry, depressed, non-sexual, and pitiful. Or they’re portrayed as childlike, magical beings whose sole purpose is to inspire and remind non-disabled folks to appreciate what they have. Either way, the message is loud-and-clear: disability is bad. But why? Comedian Pavar Snipe is on a mission to find out! In each episode, she interviews a different disabled comic, actor, or media personality about their experiences and accomplishments before diving into what they think Hollywood gets right and so very wrong about disabled life. Along the way, she and her amazing guests smash the ridiculous stereotypes, myths, and tropes that have plagued the disability community for too long to prove that real life is much funnier than fiction. One of Us

Gooba Gabble! Hey, fam! We're back with the one and only Lachi, and trust us, she had the audacity to be this talented. The Grammy nominated musician, author, and all-around queen breaks down how she went from an NYU Master's degree and a federal job (thanks, Obama) to a full-time baddie taking over the music industry. She's a Nigerian-American force who can sing, rap, and produce her own fire tracks like "The Bag" and "Life On Hard" (which, let’s be real, is how we all feel navigating these New York streets). We get honest about navigating the industry as a blind Black woman—from feeling the need to "sight-pass" to becoming a Grammy's trustee and the CEO of Ramped. Plus, we deep-dive into some classic films, Freaks (1932) and The Best Years of Our Lives (1948), to discuss what "authentic representation" actually looks like (and how one actor won two Oscars for the same role! You can't make this stuff up). You're gonna want to hear her thoughts on unmasking, filling your own cup, and why fortune favors the authentic. Do yourself a favor and get the full tea!⚡️ Don't forget to grab Lachi's book, I Identify as Blind at lachimusic.com⚡️ Let us know what you think of the episode—or just send us your favorite moment from "Freaks"—over to itsnotevenlikethatpodcast@gmail.com Check out and subscribe to our "It's Not Even Like That" Youtube channel for the video version of the episode!
