    Ep: 27 Vince Gill

    Vince Gill is without a doubt one of the greatest musicians ever, a true "guitar maestro". The Oklahoma native is so proud of his "common sense" upbringing from his parents.  He is just a genuine guy who shares with us some of his life experiences including what it felt like receiving his first phone call from Eric Clapton, finally being recognized as an accomplished musician invited to play at "Cross Roads". We chat about who influenced Vince growing up; his love for sports and how he was a great High School Athlete who could kick a football 45 yards; hit a baseball over the fence and pound a golf ball 300 yards. Awarded 22 Grammy Awards, the most of any male artist in Country Music; 18 CMA awards including five consecutive male vocalist of the year titles from 1991 to 1995; and two Entertainer of the Year Awards, you find it hard to believe he is so appreciative, humble and just a good guy to everyone. Vince is the salt of the earth and tells of his love for wife, Amy Grant, a musical talent in her own right.  Vince is now in the Country Music Hall of Fame; the Song Writers Hall of Fame and has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Yet, he will tell you his life is special and blessed because of all the friendships he has made with such talented musicians around the world, including his latest feat, playing with the legendary band, The Eagles.     Ep: 26 Emmy Lou Harris

    Emmy Lou Harris is “Music Royalty”.  Some people are good, others great and then there are legends.  That is Emmy! Her genre is a combination of folk and country -rock delivering over 15 million record sales, garnering 14 Grammy Awards, and three CMA Awards. She is an artist and a song connoisseur driven by the story that the lyric’s tell, making her a songwriter and performer that is a "must see".  Emmy talks about her love for helping animals and her special project, Crossroads, in Nashville, TN, which takes "companion animals" and unites them with “abandoned” kids giving them a purpose and teaching life skills.  We talk of her love for the game of baseball which Emmy sees as providing good lessons in life, “life is full of highs and lows and you learn to celebrate the little wins”. She shares with us her most memorable National Anthem sung at the National League Playoffs. Our conversation travels to one of Emmy’s highpoints in her life, her 2006 World Tour with Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits and their fabulous duet, “All the Road Running”.     Ep: 25 Coach Larry Schmittou

    Larry Schmittou is a sports Legend. He was my baseball "Coach" in college and Vanderbilt  had winning teams long before the Corbin Era under Schmittou.  Coach started from humble beginnings coaching in youth baseball leagues in Nashville, TN and later moving to High School and soon College as a request to help build the Vanderbilt baseball program beginning with only one scholarship in the mid 70's . Coach Schmittou later founded the Nashville Sounds Minor League team and his efforts were the beginning of Professional sports teams in Nashville.  His genius in marketing landed him a job as head of marketing for the Texas Rangers. His life lessons catapulted him to own a minor league team in every league at one point. He now runs an empire of bowling centers in four states. His talents have awarded him deserving recognition with hall of fame honors at Vanderbilt, Tennessee Sports Hall of fame many  other baseball awards. Hosted by Scotti Madison  scottimadison.com

    On the anniversary  of Trent Madison's death, I interview myself, quite raw and vulnerable,  in an effort of reflection, personal survival and to encourage any of you that has lost your child, or what to do when your friend or another family member loses their son or daughter.  Charles Scotti discusses what is helpful to a grieving parent during such great sorrow, as well as the importance of learning to live for the living ... the sooner the better.  Don't ever ask why, because you will never get that question answered.     Ep: 23 Jared Allen

    Jared Allen is the perfect guest the week of the Super Bowl. He wants to be remembered as a great father, a great husband and as someone who lived his faith. He says the Bible is “his new Playbook.” Jared’s professional career, was stellar and he is in his 4th consecutive year as a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee finalist. His 12-year NFL career established him as one of the finest defensive ends ever in the game with 136 total career sacks, that includes leading the league in sacks in 2007 and 2011. Jared discusses setting almost unattainable goals, working as hard as it takes to reach those goals and then setting new goals through honest reflection and humility. “If you are not good at something, you need to admit it and move on”.  In 2018 Jared set out on a monumental goal after his NFL retirement, to represent the United States in the Olympics as a Curling Champion. Jared shares the story of how he and four former teammates and NFL players have worked incredibly hard, paid their dues, taken their lumps, gained respect and entered the National Curling Championships January 29, 2024 in New Jersey.  His work efforts are inspiring.     Ep: 20 SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer

    Roy Kramer has impacted the game of college football probably more so than any person ever. What better way than to immerse yourself into the middle of the college football season than hearing from “the Dean” of College Football, “the Godfather” of College Football and deservedly named such. Coach shares how he moved from a college football Coach to Vanderbilt’s athletic director. Later as the SEC commissioner, his vision for the first SEC Football Championship game in 1992 changed an entire sports industry. Today’s crowning of a National Champion in College football was Coach’s idea due to the Bowl Championship Series he created in 1998. Coach Kramer’s remarkable stories and his many more achievements and accomplishments will enlighten your mind. … Coach Kramer’s football championship’s as both a high school coach and college coach are close to his heart; His unexpected and unusual jump to athletic director at Vanderbilt University was remarkable; His rise to the Commissioner of the SEC; His vision of expansion for the SEC; His success in negotiating TV deals for SEC football, as well as the TV deals for the NCAA March Madness when he served as the Chairman; His persistency in persuading the “PAC 10” and the Rose Bowl committee to join the Bowl Championship Series are all remarkable stories that Coach Kramer discusses on our episode.     Ep: 21 Glen Poulos

    Glen Poulos has decades of sales experience living in Canada. His book, “Never Sit in the Lobby”, provides both men and women guidance on successful sales techniques on “what to do” and equally important “what not to do”. It doesn’t matter if you are selling in Canada, the US or somewhere on the continent of Africa, selling a product requires the same training everywhere. Glen grew up in Niagara Falls where he learned “customer service” skills at an early age working and living in his parents hotel for years.  He later worked for the Canadian government in the Arctic when he was told, “You work effort is not compatible with that of a government employee. You work too hard. You need a job in the private sector in sales.” Our conversation, dives into the importance of “maintaining the relationship and friendship" is a key to successful sales.  “Coming in second is painful, so learn to move on to a new customer sooner than later when the sale is not there”. People are looking for reasons not to do business with you, so Glen talks about the importance of proper manners at the table, what to order, and how to eat to impress your prospective client.     Ep: 22 Belmont Basketball Coach Casey Alexander

    Casey Alexander, of Belmont University, could be one of the best basketball coaches in College Basketball today.  His early success at Lipscomb University and his recent Coaching achievements at Belmont University speak loudly both to his technical skills, as well as his ability to be a "players coach", a mentor who loves his players.  His early roots began at Brentwood Academy, TN  and culminated as a point guard at Belmont University leading the team to a 37-2 record.  Playing  under legendary Coach Rick Byrd and learning from one of the best "X's and O's" coaches of all-time, prepared Casey to become a successful coach himself. Coach Alexander's most gratifying highlight of his job is witnessing his players walk across the stage on Senior night and see how they have turned into a completely different person,  a young man with a purpose to make something of their lives. Today, it is important to make a player's experience a "transformational experience and not a transactional one". The greatest challenge to a College Coach today according to Coach Alexander is" trying to marry a player's desire to "be seen, be noticed, be important " with the necessity to individually understand the importance of  thinking "how can I become better and what can I do to help the team".  With 10 games left in the College regular season, let's listen and learn from Coach Alexander, a man with great integrity and a Coach with a servant heart.  Hosted by Scotti Madison scottimadison.com
