Understanding Discernment: What is it and Why is it Important?

Welcome to Segment 1 of our first series on IWriteChristian: Understanding Discernment. Discernment is a key part of the Christian faith. Understanding its importance — and having the ability to discern — is like making sure you’re producing from good soil. You want to be sure that everything you perceive and understand is filtered through a trusted source — and that source is God. He gives us this ability through the gift of discernment by the Holy Spirit. But it doesn’t all happen overnight. Here, I’m sharing everything I’ve come to understand about discernment. I hope it helps others and reminds us all to pay close attention to what we take in… as we continue maturing with God. In this first episode we will be discussing: What discernment is, Why discernment is important, and The Cornerstone and foundation of discernment. Don’t be afraid. Just…be careful.

The Lord promises to always be with us and promises that we don’t need to be afraid, but He has always been one to make sure we are careful. He reveals to us the things that hurt us and others. God wants us to be careful with who we listen to, what we partake in, and who we trust. He wants us to be careful to test the spirits of the signs, dreams, and words given to us. He wants our faith and trust to remain in Him—not in the things sent by the enemy to manipulate or deter us from trusting God, especially as it relates to the enemy making things appear mystical and magical to us so that we become excited, falling for the trap and believing that it is God. GOD IS NOT PLAYING. Be careful.

The only way to the Father is through the Son, Jesus Christ. It’s dangerous to get caught up in blindly following humans who “teach” the Word of God , when you have no discernment or understanding of God for yourself. Which He would provide with accuracy when you are saved only according to His grace. Beware and watch out, even for yourselves, for the thoughts and desires you have. For from where your understanding comes from. And for to whom those things are geared towards. To be of God, is to be from God, and done by God. We are not our saviors, our source, and we have no understanding on our own to believe that we have all the understanding, like the many “teachers” do, that walk arrogantly and hypocritically. If it does not redirect you to Christ and the truth that God is all that works through us to please God, but instead leads to your own efforts without acknowledging God as the source for things that belong to Him and can only be done by Him, then you should leave those people, spaces and areas. Watch and listen carefully as to not become that way. Stay rooted in the fact the it is only Through Jesus Christ that we get to The Father. Let that cornerstone assist with discerning who to take guidance from.

I Wanna Learn to Take My Own Advice

Just a late night conversation about a realization I had.. I need to start taking my own advice. I have a lot to give to others, but I never give it to myself . I know many others relate. I draw my advice from love and the wisdom God has given me. God has used me to help many people. He has allowed me to go through many things to understand many people. I NEVER want it to seem as though I lead myself by saying “following my own advice”. Sometimes I make stupid decisions because of my own selfish desires, but I give God credit for anything I have or give that results in something good. This Space is for Space

Just me communicating my goals and my intentions for this podcast and blog- how I don’t fit and don’t want to be under the pressure of making everything sound perfect or end on a positive note. It’s OK to feel and it’s OK to be human and sometimes that means just being without trying to fix it. That’s what I’m about, if it goes into positivity, cool, but it’s really about being able to connect on that real level. Where we’re in the middle our feelings and thoughts, and whatever else is going on instead of trying to show up as that fixed, healed, and perfect version of a person.
