    98. The Spice Must Flow w/ Meg Lush (author of Two For the Love of One)

MegLush is a contemporary spicy open door romance author. Her debutnovel, Two for the Love of One, was published in 2024. We discuss thevarious divisions within the romance genre – open door, closed door– we discuss levels of spice and how she determines what is neededin a novel, and how this was all new to her because she’d never setout to write a romance novel in the first place, but that this wasinstead something she needed to write to honour her late father. 97. Bruh, Do You Even Lift? w/ Alex Tilley (author of Mr. Strong)

AlexTilley writes fiction that wanders the borderlands between folkhorror, magical realism, dark fantasy, and the psychological. Hisbooks include Meshkwadoon Books 1 and 2, the novella Mr. Strong, andthe forthcoming Sefira’s Gloom. Before self-publishing, he spentyears devouring everything from The Lord of the Rings to Shakespeare,Anne Rice, poetry, and Jane Austen. He was in the Canadian ArmedForces for five years, where he earned a humanities degree whileworking full-time in his trade. He wrote as a hobby when he was in myteens, but the belief that he could write a full book didn't come tohim until 2019. When he’s not writing, he’s usually buried inresearch on mythology, religion, occult traditions, and thesupernatural. Alexis back to discuss his standalone novella, Mr. Strong. I previouslyhad Alex on back in episode 85 discussing his folkloric bookMeshkwadoon—Mr. Strong is entirely different, but Alex carries onhis usual style in having so much to say and tackling it with aplomb.Mr. Storng follows Elgin, a bodybuilder who’s identity is wrappedup in his body, his strength. Becoming disabled after a car accident, his whole perception of masculinity is thrown into crisis, and weElgin begin to spiral, and question his place in the world. Mr.Strong is a short book, and Alex is on the top of his game. Alex isalso reading my anthology The Moon Panther, which we discuss a bithere as well, and he’s reading Taming the Laser Leopard, myupcoming novel, as a part of my beta-reading crew, so you’ll hearus discuss that a bit as well. Moreover, we have a nice discussion onbeta-reading and how to approach this aspect of finalizing a book. 96. Bread and Circuses w/ RW Duder (author of Amy: Legacy)

Returning guestRW Duder is back again. This time we’re talking about Amy Legacy, book 2 in the Amy series. RW, Rob, was previously on all the way backin episode 36 where we discussed Amy Book 1. This episode might bemildly spoilery for that first book, so maybe go and listen to thatfirst—but this is a slasher novel, so you’re here for the bloodand guts. Back in episode 36, Rob and I had some technical issues, and some of the audio got cut—most of what we lost was discussingserial killers and true crime, which I found was more relevant toLegacy, and we recreate that discussion here. His second novel, Who Killed Arnold Muller, goes in a different direction – it’s a murder mystery set insmall-town Ontario in modern-day, and he keeps you guessing right upuntil the end. 92. Alien Cats w/ Joe Mahoney (author of A Time and a Place)

Wayback in the early days, there was an author with whom I travelled insomewhat overlapping circles. He was promoting his debut novel, ATime and a Place. Online, i saw him sharing screenshots of Audacity, with track titles labelled Chapter 1, 2 etc, and captions that he'djust recorded another. In 2019, I attended a book show that thisauthor organized in Whitby, and I had just downloaded his finishedaudiobook off of Audible. I remarked to him how remarkable it was forhim to do his own audiobook, and he gave me the advice, perhaps inpassing, that if I were interested in audio, I should do my own, which seemed like a ludicrous idea at the time. But, here we are, seven years later, and I have 3—soon to be 4, if I can ever do thefinal touches on the Moon Panther—audiobooks out that I myselfrecorded, and it's Joe Mahoney that I credit with seeding that ideaof doing it myself. Thisweek I have Joe on to discuss his book A Time and a Place, hiswriting journey, the press that he has founded now that he's retiredand moved out to the east coast, and more, Donovan Street Press.
