Jason Verney's "F. L. I. C. K. S. (Film, Life, Interview, Camera, Korea & Sounds)" PODCAST

Jason Verney

"F. L. I. C. K. S." is a podcast by filmmaker and journalist Jason Verney, in collaboration with his production company, NativeNomadPictures.com (NNP) and his movies & music website, MiniMiniMovie.com (MMM), and stands for: Films Life Interviews Camera Korea Sounds 'FLICKS' SERIES DESCRIPTION: An Odd Plod, Nod & Pod to "NO-MADe-land"... This podcast can be seen as an apology perhaps, to those who may be awaiting the yet to be completed South Korean documentary by Mr Verney. Jason talks about various aspects of Korea, the Korean culture, movies (both Korean and international), music, life, travelling & more. Like the #KDOC14 documentary project itself, this too is a work in progress. Over time it will evolve... be this in format or from an audio to a visual podcast. Note: "F. L. I. C. K. S." is the new name for what was known as "Jason Verney's PLODCAST". Previous potential comic titles for this podcast were Prodcast*, Probcast** and Oddcast*** but the original name of "Plodcast" was used. * To represent 'still in Production' ** For either 'Problematic' or 'Probably' *** Simply because it's all kind of 'Odd' PLODCAST, although probably in existent by other broadcasters, was thought most apt... Not so much due to the fact that the podcast itself is slow, plodding or boring (well, you can be the judge of that!) but indicating that the Korean documentary, and other filmic projects are slowly, but surely on their way! "F. L. I. C. K. S." was more recently thought of a more memorable and relevant name & not only indicates that it's related to movies but also spells out what else it covers: Films; Life; Interviews; Camera; Korea; Sounds. "FLICKS" Ep 96: "One to One: John & Yoko" - My Tears, His Years... I'm All Ears...

In episode 96 of Jason Verney’s “F.L.I.C.K.S.” we present a kind of 'on the go' episode, of which the bulk of it focuses on the recent documentary film by Kevin Macdonald, "One to One: John &; Yoko".   Although this rambling review (& more!) was recorded in Bristol (UK) in Spring 2025, it seemed apt to put it out now whilst I'm visiting Vietnam - not least because the John & Yoko documentary focuses on that time when the Vietnam war - or as some Vietnamese may have called it, "the American War or "the anti-American War OR the “War Against the Americans to Save the Nation” - was tragically happening.  In fact, they'll be one or two other "Verney's Vietnam" kind of videos appearing on my http://www.YouTube.com/JasonVe... channel. It's also recently been announced that a remastered version of the 90's docuseries, The Beatles Anthology will be coming to a certain platform soon... as well as music/reissues to accompany it. Subjects touched on in this episode all include how the documentary made me feel, how others expressed emotion, The Watershed venue in Bristol and comparisons to making my very own feature documentary [about the South Korea disaster of the Sewol Ferry) The main part of the episode was recorded whilst 'on the go', 'on the move' and therefore 'on the fly'. I hope you enjoy what I have to say... This episode, number 96 was recorded on 26th April 2025 in Bristol, England/UK. The accompanying article can be found on here, at myhttp://www.MiniMiniMovie.com.  Also found on that site of mine are two posts/reviews from years ago of other Kevin Macdonald films: https://miniminimovie.com/2011/05/15/life-in-a-day-or-from-my-workplace-to-wordpress-to-the-worldpeople/ https://miniminimovie.com/2011/04/22/the-eagle-or-the-last-bling-of-scotland/ Video Version:  https://youtu.be/LWpXisHEgWI Other podcasts by Jason Verney: (Note: In addition to any YouTube links, all these podcasts are available on your favourite music / audio / streaming platforms) The Not So Korean Podcast http://www.Linktree.com/NotSoKoreanPodcast The Micro-Budget Filmmakers (MBF) Podcast https://www.youtube.com/@micro-budgetfilmmakers This "F. F.L.I.C.K.S. EP 95: "Mickey 17 & 'his' Movies - A Mini, Meandering, Meaningless Review & More!"

In episode 95 of Jason Verney’s “F.L.I.C.K.S.” we take a look at the Bong Joon-ho film, "Mickey 17" which I recently  witnessed twice in the UK. Subjects touched on, which all vaguely revolve around "Mickey 17" include meeting Bong Joon-ho, his previous film projects, how this one has been perhaps 'dumbed-down' or Americanised [a little like Bong Joon-ho's "Snowpiercer" and "Okja"] and venues in Bristol... especialy the amazing & independent cinema, The Watershed. The main part of the episode was recorded whilst 'on the go', 'on the move' and therefore 'on the fly'. I hope you enjoy what I have to say... FLICKS Ep. 94 - A Judge Reviews "JOKER: Folie Á Deux" ('In Defence Of Joker 2'...)

In episode 94 of Jason Verney’s “F.L.I.C.K.S.” we take a look at the film, "Joker: Folie à Deux" which I witnessed in Busan, South Korea. There has been so much negativity towards this sequel to "Joker" and from quite a lot of people. Well, I decided that, as a writer and filmmakermyself - and fresh from my recent position as judge at the inaugural SWFF (Seoul Whistler Film Festival) - I'd give my take on the film. In fact, seeing as some of the film takes place in a courtroom, I thought I'd be both JUDGE and DEFENDER of this unique sequel. I hope you enjoy what I have to say... FLICKS Ep 91: "Pha Dam Kham Ai: A Cinderella Story" (ผาดำคำไอ่ ซินเดอเรลล่าสตอรี่) - A Righteous Review of a Romantic & Rather Racy Film!

In this episode, we take a look at the film, "Pha Dam Kham Ai: A Cinderella Story" (ผาดำคำไอ่ ซินเดอเรลล่าสตอรี่), a special re-telling of the classic tale, with a North-East Thailand take. Jason reviews this funny fairytale whilst also commenting on the region of Thailand, stating a couple of interesting facts whilst giving his unique review of this Thai regional movie, surely one which would delight many Thais, Laotians & residents of the Isaan (or Isan / อีสาน). Overall, a Righteous Review of a Romantic & Rather Racy Film! Recorded on 11th August 2024 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. FLICKS 90: “Uranus 2324” (ยูเรนัส2324) – Thailand’s First Space Film [A REVIEW 🇹🇭]

In this episode, the Thai 'space film' drama, "Uranus 2324" is reviewed.  It's a strange mix of genres but in many ways it works, by bringing it all back to relationships - in particular, one between our two central characters, Kath (played by British-Thai actress Rebecca Patricia 'Becky' Armstrong & Lin (played by Freen Sarocha Chankimha) - and back 'down to earth', the ground being the part between the Sea and the Sky or Space. "FLICKS" Ep 89: "Breaking The Cycle" (อำนาจ ศรัทธา อนาคต) - FILM REVIEW / Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit / Future Forward Party

In this episode, we bring you a little review of the Thai documentary film, "Breaking The Cycle" (OR "อำนาจ ศรัทธา อนาคต" / "Power, Faith, Future") about Thanathorn and the Future Foward Party, expertly made by directors Aekaphong Saransate and Thankrit Duangmaneeporn. Recorded on 19th June 2024 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. From the accompanying article on my http:// www.MiniMiniMovie.com website: “Mr Mini Mini (aka me [Jason Verney]) was so glad to have caught this insightful and well-made Thai documentary feature film in a Chiang Mai cinema, and just before it finishes its current run here in the Kingdom of Thailand. Whether you're aware of the current Move Forward Party in Thailand or more specifically, the previous incarnation known as Future Forward Party & its leader, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit - which this documentary mainly focuses on - or are simply interested in world politics, related movements OR hope in general, this film is not to be missed. Before I hand you over to 'myself' (via a podcast episode of the F.L.I.C.K.S. series*), I'll fill you in a little bit concerning why this movie was on my radar. Some readers and friends will know that I'm not only a big advocate for many aspects of Korean culture, interested in its history but also current and past Korean issues etc but what they may not know is that if it wasn't for my first ever visit to Asia & in fact Thailand more than a decade and a half ago, I may never have got into Korean film and indeed Asian cinema, as well as certain areas of politics, casues or issues at all. There is also a Korean connection with this documentary. Sure, I've attended a few Korean film festivals before (including a couple, solely due to the festival release & premieres of my own recent film, “Reparation'” - an English and Korean, dual language drama) and one I've known about for a long time is the esteemed DMZ Docs festival. Well, the DMZ Docs guys were one of those with backing, input and production for this project. In fact, even if I hadn't read something about this prior to the film screening itself, I would have seen the credits and the various Korean names amongst all the many people listed. Then there's the Sheffield DocFest, a hugely well-known film festival in my home country of the UK. Not only this, but how surreal to see that it was playing in Sheffield around the same time that I got to witness it in Thailand... AND maybe more poignant that there is a big election approaching in the UK. Yes, this film could not just be timely for millions of Thai people but for this humble writer, filmmaker, podcaster and activist. For me, being in this amazing country of Thailand and seeing this movie with Thai people (and others), it meant so much to me and even brought me to tears at certain points. I'm easily moved or emotional, especially when there's hope for individuals living in a country I hugely admire. So... without wasting any more of your precious reading time, I'll let you listen to my little overview/review of this film, "Breaking The Cycle". ____ Other podcasts by Jason Verney: (Note: In addition to any YouTube links, all these podcasts are available on your favourite music / audio / streaming platforms) The Not So Korean Podcast http://www.Linktree.com/NotSoKoreanPodcast The Micro-Budget Filmmakers (MBF) Podcast https://www.youtube.com/@micro-budgetfilmmakers This "F.
