    7. Charmed: The Tragedy of Cole Turner — Villain, Victim, or Failed Redemption?

Was Cole Turner really evil, or did Charmed turn one of its most compelling characters into its greatest tragedy? In this episode of For the Archive with Jay Snowdon, we're opening the Character Archive on Cole Turner, played by the late Julian McMahon, and examining one of the most fascinating, controversial, and ultimately frustrating character arcs in Charmed history. Introduced in Season 3 as Belthazor, a powerful half-human, half-demon assassin working for the Triad, Cole quickly became one of the show's most intimidating villains. But beneath the demonic exterior was something that made him different: his humanity. And then he fell in love with Phoebe Halliwell. What followed was arguably one of Charmed's strongest storylines — a villain struggling against his own nature, attempting redemption, and discovering that love might be more powerful than evil. But somewhere along the way, everything changed. Did Cole actually become a better person? Was he responsible for becoming the Source of All Evil? And why did the writers seemingly abandon his redemption arc in favor of turning him back into a villain? We're revisiting Cole's journey throughout Seasons 3, 4, and 5, including his complicated relationship with Phoebe, his transformation into the Source, his return from the Demonic Wasteland, and his heartbreaking downfall in "Centennial Charmed." We'll also explore Julian McMahon's unforgettable performance, why Cole often felt more threatening than the show's actual big bads, and whether Phoebe and the Charmed Ones ultimately failed him. Plus, we'll discuss how Cole's storyline reflects the dramatic shift in Charmed's writing between its darker early seasons and its increasingly chaotic later years. Was Cole Turner a villain, a victim, or a genuinely good man who was never given a fair chance? It's time to reopen the Book of Shadows and give Cole Turner the character analysis he deserves. 🎙️ For the Archive with Jay Snowdon A pop culture deep-dive podcast exploring the characters, stories, television shows, movies, and cultural moments we can't stop thinking about. Join the conversation! Do you think Cole deserved redemption? Was Phoebe justified in giving up on him? And was Cole's downfall a natural conclusion to his character or a failure of the writing? 2. Prue Halliwell: The Charmed One We Lost Too Soon | Character Archive

The Character Archive is officially open — and our first entry is Prudence “Prue” Halliwell. 🔮 I’m rewatching Charmed as an adult, and somehow I’ve come out of it loving Prue Halliwell even more than I did growing up. In this deep dive, we’re going through Prue’s complete three-season journey: from the tightly wound Buckland’s version of Prue in Season 1 to the long-haired, hand-flinging, photographer DIVA she becomes in Seasons 2 and 3. We’re getting into her relationship with Piper and Phoebe, the tragedy of Prue and Andy, her telekinesis and astral projection, leaving Buckland’s, her best episodes, her increasingly ridiculous power level, and the noticeable changes in Prue during Season 3. And then, of course, we have to talk about All Hell Breaks Loose. Shannen Doherty’s departure. That cliffhanger. Prue’s bizarre off-screen death. The way losing Prue completely reorganized the Halliwell family. And one of the biggest unanswered questions in Charmed history: What would Prue Halliwell have become if she survived? Plus, I have thoughts about the Season 2 transformation. The hair got longer. The clothes got hotter. The squinting stopped. The hand started flinging. Prue Halliwell had ARRIVED. 🔮 CHARACTER ARCHIVE #1: PRUE HALLIWELL After you listen, tell me: Where does Prue rank among the four Charmed Ones? And what Prue episode belongs in the time capsule? Next stop in the archive: Piper, Phoebe, Paige… or should we cause chaos and jump to Cole?
