Jeremy Paxman: Why Do We Still Have a Monarchy?
Queen Mary, University of London
Jeremy Paxman, better known for presenting Newsnight and University Challenge presents this guest lecture in honour of the late political and economic author, Anthony Sampson. Paxman focuses on what makes a monarchy relevant in today’s world, starting by examining the case of the most recent monarchy in Europe – Albania. He uses his wealth of experience in politics to explore the links between monarchy and religion and political power to challenge his own prejudice that a monarchy is archaic and undemocratic. His conclusion comes after a lifetime of thought and reflection on a matter that is fundamental to British politics. For more information go to www.meg.qmul.ac.uk.
