    S6:16 | Seeing Scripture Through the Lens of Grace

    In the book of Galatians, Paul wants us to see that true freedom comes from accepting God’s grace and living by His promise rather than following strict religious rules. The difficulty in this passage comes from what Paul calls an “allegory”—contrasting two women from the OT, Hagar and Sarah. Paul says these two mothers represent two covenants—one of slavery under the law and the other of freedom through God's promise. And he’s asking the question: “You may claim Abraham as your father, but who’s your mother?” His answer to this question actually ties the whole Bible together—from Genesis to Galatians, so to speak.     How should we respond to relational disappointment? In this episode, we learn that Paul is distraught over the unfaithfulness of his friends in Galatia. And rather than theologically refuting them, in Galatians 4:8-20, Paul speaks to them frankly at how personally and emotionally hurt he is.     S6:12 | Breaking Free from Spiritual Slavery

    One of the most odd and tedious questions in all of Christian theology and practice is outlining our relationship to the Law. Paul speaks highly of the Law but also indicates that it was used for negative purposes. The psalmists gush, “How I love your Law, O Lord!” But the NT writers also talk about how the Law was a short-lived covenant, and not an eternal covenant. And on an experiential level, if we are saved by grace of Jesus through faith in Jesus, are we now above the Law? Can we dismiss it altogether? It’s still a part of Holy Scripture, so what do we do?
