    CoR-Tuf.com CEO Douglas Darling Offers UHPC Insights, with Martin Halliwell P.Eng.

    Host Martin Halliwell talks with the Founder and Chairman of Cor-Tuf UHPC, Douglas Darling. Cor-Tuf UHPC is the only licensed producer of Cor-Tuf Ultra-High Performance Concrete in the United States and the world. The ultra-high performance concrete mix design is comprised largely of the same materials as traditional concrete. Cor-Tuf UHPC can be used in place of traditional concrete in all current concrete applications. It can also be used in new and innovative ways concrete has not been used in the past. Douglas has a long career in land and development projects and a strong background in construction methods. His work as a developer-led him to a fascination with the properties and potential of UHPC concrete, which then propelled him to form COR-TUF UHPC, six years ago. He is now chairman of the company and works closely with the management team and partners.     In this episode, Host Martin Halliwell with Matt Janes, M.E.Sc, discussed The Bow Shoring; its background, geology, challenges, design philosophy, site progress, and lessons. This discussion was filmed in 2008. Matthew (Matt) Janes, M.E.Sc., P.Eng., MBA, has strong expertise in geotechnical engineering, geotechnical dynamics, geo-structural engineering, and finite element analysis, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of the industry. He is a highly active member of the Deep Foundations Institute, serving as a Trustee for the past ten years and as President from 2018-2020. A few of his memorable projects include Calgary's The Bow (2007-2013), Whitemud in Edmonton (2008-2009), Sheppard Subway Stations (1999-2003), Eglinton Line Subways (2017-2021) and Murano (2006), in Toronto. Born and raised in British Columbia, Matthew has over 35 years of experience in geotechnical engineering consulting, contracting, and manufacturing. With an emphasis on applied research and product development, Matthew has been a key proponent in bringing many new innovations to the industry, including Statnamic load testing, underwater pile driving, and, more recently, the development of a resonant pile driving hammer.
