A GLBT Grand Tour

Think you know Queer culture? Think Again. Selig takes his audience on a grand tour of the GLBT Community, introducing us to a Transgender Nascar driver, a Native American Lesbian Shaman, HIV-positive Southern Baptists, and a Gay stripper/professor, among others. John interviews everyone from homeless shelter managers to politicians to the odd gay-friendly heterosexual in a very polished, professional manner that gets better with every episode. If he hasn't yet covered your favorite corner of the homo-verse, he probably will soon.

A Must Listen!

Meeting John through his "Outspoken" podcast is much like the John you'll meet at the coffee shop. Afraid of no one and a stranger to none, John easily strikes up conversations with people from all walks of life. Without hesitation, John sips on a piping hot coffee only to breath fire into a dull conversation. From Prop 8 to the candidate and now President Obama, John challenges the listener to examine the evidence while challenging personal prejudice. Listening to these podcasts is not for the faint of intellect, as the John I know has never suffered fools well. You won't enjoy them if you cannot reason. You won't enjoy them if you cannot hear an argument or articulate one. You will enjoy his enormous capacity to bring to the table the lives and passions of the real heroes and champions he chooses to interview. It just so happens that John has a passion for the Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered community, so the application of reason, thoughtful discourse and sometimes very challenging conversation fills a niche I've not found in our community of public discourse. These interviews flow with the professionalism I have come to expect from those I enjoy from NPR. I don't always agree with John, though I have always been challenged by his articulate, heartfelt and caring interviews. Take the time to listen to one and I think you'll get hooked on something very, very special.
