    Welcome to EUROTalks, a podcast developed under the EUROProspects project. The project intends to make tangible progresses in judicial professionals’ awareness and knowledge of the Framework Decision 2008/947, promoting a more frequent and consolidated use of the instrument, taking into consideration the rehabilitation prospects of foreign persons sentenced to probation measures and alternative sanctions. EUROTalks brings together judges, prosecutors and probation officers for focused debates on some of the project’s most pressing topics, while promoting the exchange of professional experiences. The debate is moderated by João Gomes and Carolina Nogueira, from IPS_Innovative Prison Systems, a partner in the EUROProspects project. In this 1st episode, we are joined by Ana Cristina Neves and Sandra Rodrigues. Ana Cristina Neves is a senior probation officer at the Directorate-General of Rehabilitation and Prison Services, being the head of the Community Sanctions and Measures Division since 2016. Cristina holds a PhD in Psychology of Justice since 2010 and At DGRSP, is responsible for providing guidelines for case management practices and collaborates as trainer of probation staff. As a representative of DGRSP, Cristina has participated in meetings held at the Confederation of European Probation on the implementation of FDs 2008/947 and 2009/829, and has collaborated in European Projects about the subject. Sandra Rodrigues is currently an Investigating Judge at the Criminal Investigation Court of Guimarães. Sandra has a master’s degree in law and is preparing a doctoral dissertation in Criminal Law Sciences at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. Sandra also teaches Legal and Forensic Principles in the Forensic Chemistry master’s Degree at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra.     How is the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) being used – and misused – across the EU? The EPHESUS Podcast brings real-world insights to this ongoing debate, with voices from legal and justice professionals across Europe. In this Episode, João and Beatriz interview Asya Mandzhukova, Bulgarian Attorney-at-Law. Asya is a defence laywer with over 20 years of experience, specialised in criminal law and procedure, and EU criminal law. With extensive experience in international judicial cooperation, has contributed to numerous legal training initiatives, expert consultations, and legislative working groups. She serves on the advisory board of Fair Trials Europe, has acted as an expert witness before UK courts in EAW-related proceedings, and is an active author on issues concerning procedural rights, fundamental rights, and EU criminal justice. This podcast is part of the wider EPHESUS effort to promote a proportional use of the EAW, by addressing fundamental rights violations in cross-border proceedings and by promoting the use of alternative instruments. The EPHESUS project is led by the Themistocles and Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation - Centre for European Constitutional Law (Greece) and it's partnered by IPS_Innovative Prison Systems (Portugal), the Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), the Center for the Study of Democracy (Bulgaria) and European Strategies Consulting (ESC) (Romania).
