    BSBF Ep. 50 -- Tech, Trainers, Tubeless and THANK YOU!!!

    Welcome to EPISODE 50 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! Holy smokes??! First off, THANK YOU for you listening to the previous 50 episodes, I honestly am in 'awe' that I've made 50 of them but more so that so many of you are listening to the little podcast that could.  Wanted to catch up on 'techy bits' that I've wanted to talk about for a while, so it may seem like 'old news' but I'm stoked to have my $0.02 in on some of the acquisitions from Wahoo, the unveiling of CADEX and actual, THERE IT IS!!!! new Shimano Dura Ace groupset.  It being NOVEMBER (YIKES!!) it is time for trainer season for those of us who live in colder climates. Indoor training is a great way to make your time count on the bike, with structured training workouts but you will need a tool that lets you get the most out of it: so here is a little explainer on SMART TRAINERS vs. 'DUMB' TRAINERS --- I dislike the word 'dumb' to describe such a great valued tool but it does help differentiate between trainer concepts. Do you have a smart trainer? If so, I want to know in the comments below.     BSBF Ep. 49 -- Where's your head at? (there's a new helmet on my dome)

    Welcome to BIKESHOP BF Episode 49!!!!  I would be rude to NOT acknowledge how long of my hiatus from recording has been and want to THANK EACH OF YOU!!! for continuing to listen to this and the older episodes of the podcast! In this shorter episode, it is 'Out with the old and in with that NEW -NEW!!' I've got a NEW helmet I'm going to be using and I'm going to tell you all about the POC VENTRAL AIR SPIN. Full disclosure: I bought this helmet, didn't receive it from POC, nor have they given me any $$ to endorse or to talk about this helmet.     Episode 46- In conversation with Chris Perrin of Norco Bicycles + LTP distribution

    Welcome to the BIKESHOP BF Podcast EPISODE 46!! Here is a recording of a conversation that I've been wanting to do since I found out he was my Insider Rep at Norco Bicycles, Chris Perrin( IG: @chris_thebruce) . Chris works for one of the BIGGEST bicycle brands in Canada, Norco Bicycles, and one of the largest distributors (Live-To-Play Sports/ IG @ltp_sports) in Canada that has some major impact on the cycling industry. We get into the origin story of 'how Chris became Chris Perrin' (he thanks his parents, of course!) but also describes his roots in cycling and bikes. We also discuss how brands, within the industry, are making product and bikes that riders want to ride and highlight some of our favourites, including the SIGHT VLT (eMTB), my staff's shop favourite bike of 2017 + 2018 -- the Norco Scene, the ride of 'dirt dropper' bikes and their #gravelcompatibility, what it is like riding on the West coast of Canada and how Norco is working with brick & mortar shops in an internet age? From the start, it is about remembering Paul Sherwen (this episode is dedicated to him and his memory) who passed away on December 2nd, 2018 - aged 62, who was one of the voices to my enjoyment of July and Le Tour de France. I try to put into words his legacy for me and what his career meant to me.     BSBF Ep. 44 -- Calamity, Cyclocross and Revelations (... oh my!)

    Welcome to EPISODE 44 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! How can I put this? I screwed up!! Screwing up is part of the adventures of audio documentation aka 'podcasting' and I'm not an exception to calamity. Here is a prime example of things going wrong, when I tried to document the race audio from Bikes & Beyond - BEYOND THE GRAVE pt. II CX. Took 2 weeks before giving up trying to salvage audio from it... sigh... at least I learned to ALWAYS have fresh batteries BEFORE recording. Still wanted to give the flavour of what was the race-event, so enjoy my mixtape of audio from that!/ Next up 2019 has LOTS of exciting bikes coming out from manufacturers, I give an explainer of what I'm looking forward to!/ A chat with both Graham & Garret from the shop, two recent hires who I briefly interview and get some insights from between goings-on, phone calls and customers in the shop.     BSBF Ep. 43: "How does a $10k bike sell a $1k bike?"

    Welcome to Episode 43 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! In this episode, I wanted to experiment a bit more with the 'raw audio' side things-- here are 3 little segments that I feel gives a flavour to what the #bikeshoplife is about: we hear from Jamie (one of the main service technicians and education-provocateur) one some of the interesting aspects of hub adjustment; next up is some audio from a bike setup I did with Stephen; then round out the experimental packet of audio from this past weekend's C Y C L O C R O S S provincial championship race. If you hadn't guessed, one of the tactics is make each other laugh./ "What's up in the bike shop?" turns into a small rant-rundown of the goings on: event planning, participation in great events and just weirdly busy (no complaints!)/ lastly, I do my best to explain "how does a $10k bike sell a $1k bike?" - with some background information about "A" bikes vs. "B" bikes, what does "value" mean to the rider-client? and ASPIRATION vs. PRACTICAL all factor into my response.
