    Let's Talk CODEPENDENCY

Hello friends! This is a topic I'm not unfamiliar with by any means, but tend to deviate from talking about- the topic on codependency. By definition, codependency is when a person is mentally, emotionally, physically and/or spiritually reliant on another. It's a dysfunctional relationship dynamic that some may even refer to as "relationship addiction". If you think about it, all of us since birth are heavily codependent to our caregivers because otherwise how else would we survive our infant stages? But the way it's brought into this world, codependency is suppose to naturally evolve into us ultimately depending on ourselves overtime-meaning anything we can't get from others, whether it be love, work, validation, accountability, a boost of self esteem etc, we must be able to give to ourselves. Now don't get me wrong-humans wouldn't be able to thrive longterm without the help of others, and it speaks true when they say "we thrive & survive in packs". Nor am I proposing that we should isolate ourselves from the world, but I think codependency becomes an impediment in our lives when we feel like we can't function, or even survive to some extremes, without the validation, recognition, love, and/or help from others. These are my thoughts. Enjoy! 2. How Do You Even Self Love?

How Do You Even Self Love?

Before my self development journey, self love just didn't come naturally to me. It was almost always pushed at the bottom of my priority list and over time it made me wonder why that was the case. The fact that we have to re-condition ourselves to learn to self love is a huge red flag in our society.  I've always had a half-assed explanation of self love; all I thought I needed to do was take a brisk walk at the park in hopes that my depressive symptoms & problems would go away..at least that's what the internet says, right? Is that all it takes; telling myself the same platitudes over & over, indulging in some fried oreos, or treating myself to some retail therapy.  Don't get me wrong; these are all great self care practices and can be helpful in moderation, but I've realized over time that self love is more than just the external stuff.. it's a balance, and a lot of it has to do with the internal. The inner demons we don't like to talk about. Our vices. Our attachment styles. Our trauma. The anxiety, the depression.  Wouldn't it just make sense to run far away from it all? The simplified answer to that is no. You really shouldn't. Why? Because you're running away from you; the inner child that yearns for your acceptance and your love. The inner child that's still wounded from all the pain even if all this time has passed. We simply don't give enough attention to ourselves in this way. So here's a little reminder that it's valid to feel these emotions, it's not your fault and let's work on reframing so those old stories we tell ourselves can finally stop dictating our adult lives.
