An uncomfortable insight into the life of female surgeon

An uncomfortable insight into the life of female surgeon

*Trigger warning this episode mentions experience of sexual harassment*

On this episode of the KICPOD Steph and Laura had the pleasure of speaking with Australian surgeon and author Neela Janakiramanan. They chatted with Neela about her upcoming novel ‘The Registrar’ which was inspired by her personal experiences throughout her surgical training and unpacks the cost of success in the medical industry. Neela talks to the harsh reality of the surgical profession and how she had to endure sexual harassment, burnout and mental health deterioration to achieve success.

This conversation provides an uncomfortable insight into the lives of budding surgeons whilst also reminding us of the importance of implementing tactics to support our mental health in the workplace. Neela also provides some wonderful advice on how we can best manage ourselves in high pressure environments and how we can ensure we’re truly switching off when we’re away from work.

Neela’s novel The Registrar can be pre-ordered at Booktopia (https://www.booktopia.com.au/the-registrar-neela-janakiramanan/book/9781761066511.html)

Such a fun, insightful podcast ♥️

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a year now, and I absolutely love it. I love how relatable, honest and funny you both are. My favorite episodes are when your having conversations on life, relationships, confidence etc I do also enjoy the variety of guests you bring to the show, even though I’m not from AUS it’s fun to get a glimpse into a different culture! PS Laura thank you for asking us to write a review, there is zero shame in that, you girls are killing it and deserve all the recognition!

Consider me your BFF—

I’m the same age and find that so many of my most pressing questions are consistently addressed here. Laura and Stephs unfiltered, honest views are incredibly refreshing; and have become voices I hear in my head regularly. I have also decided to read/listen to Brene Brown because of Laura…needless to say, my life has infinitely improved from you both. I hope you never stop recording! Can’t get enough of KIC and you two. Love from the USA.

Not Gaslighting You

I do happen to follow Steph and Laura on Instagram (and now Abbie Chatfield) and had to write this review because we 5 star people are not gaslighting any of you, you’re awesome people and this podcast talks about so many incredible viewpoints and pieces of advice for young women. I would recommend to any woman in my life, such important things have been said on these episodes. It’s a must listen.
