    But How Does the Discourse Make You Feel?

    It's Black History Month, so to celebrate I'm publishing this episode at 11:59 PM on February 28th. Finally, it's time to get back and finish our two part episodes on the original L Word. For our Black History night cap, we're talking episode 109, "Listen Up". Bette and Tina are taking up group parenting classes with a multiracial cast of upper-middle class people. While Bette and Tina are separately trying to ease the tension between them as Tina prepares to carry their child, Bette is confronted by a single dark-skinned Black woman for using her paper-bag pass to advance in her career. Bette is forced to navigate her blackness and her queerness in a brand new way, maybe learning where the two intersect and engaging more with the parts of herself she tries to hide.... or maybe she gives up entirely on Group Therapy and being challenged, and uses this to finally get out of her boring ass relationship.     Soldier's Gal Pal

    CW Up top: Language. The following episode is our reaction to a dramatized depiction of a real hate crime that occurred in the long ago years of 1999. The following may contain homophobic and transphobic slurs used in reference.  Hey Sailor. Or Soldier. Or potential queer somewhere out there in the Ether. I'd apologize for being inconsistent, but I'm cute so we're going to call it "spontaneous". To celebrate my spontaneity, we're going to be talking about "Soldier's Girl", a 2003 dramatization of a 90's hate crime committed against a young man in love with a trans woman by a young man in love with a young man in love with a trans woman. Does the joy of staring at a young Lee Pace playing a trans woman outweigh the brutality of America under DADT((and all the other institutionalized -isms?))? Probably not.     Dream House as Two Baguettes

    This was supposed to come out before the end of spooky season, but this episode was on its own journey and got there when it needed to. So offer it your love and support as a fresh baby-queer episode. This time we're talking about Carmen Maria Machado's memoir, Into the Dream House, a horrifying, haunting, beautiful reflection on the author's experience in an abusive relationship and the ways that the worst kinds of abuse are perfectly legal.     Episode 8 - The Haunting of Bottom's Manor

    What can the sordid love story of a Twinky street urchin, Graham, and the Duke(? Count? Lord? Knight? Point is there's some inbreeding) who's hired him, Sir Richard Allinson, to tutor his anemic Victorian orphans tell us about ourselves? Very little, surprisingly. Especially when they're all found in Bonnie Dee's The Tutor. Set in a run-down country estate in one of the most downtrodden parts of 19th century England, listen along as your hosts discuss the merits of bleaching your hair and moving away from your problems with nothing but a fake resume and scabies. Can Graham and Richard overcome the Manor's haunted past to break the curse, save the boys, and live happily ever after?
