Xpression aka Xpression The MC (born Juan Carlos Fajardo Jr. on 9/19/92) is a rapper, designer, and author from Indio, California—home of the iconic Coachella Valley Music Festival. While his early music interests had theological roots in and out of Bible study, he routinely explores the darker side of lyricism in the modern day, having earned nicknames such as “The Mexican Eminem” and the “Hannibal Lecter of Hip-Hop.” This formative dichotomy is instrumental to his sound, style, image, and message.

After garnering the attention of Ruthless Records co-founder Jerry Heller in 2016, Xpression connected with Grammy-nominated producer Ronnie King; just before Heller’s passing at the age of 75. This pivotal moment led to the creation of “What You Want” (Ft. Mellow Man Ace) and “To The Top” (Ft. Kxng Crooked), with additional production by Bebo Beats, one of Xpression’s childhood friends and frequent collaborators. Other key tracks followed, including “Hiphop Ain’t Dead,” “Every Life Matters,” “Enigma,” “Eyes Wide Shut” (Ft. Chino XL), “187” (Ft. Cassidy), and many more. For his efforts, X was voted the “Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist” at the 8th Annual Coachella Valley Music Awards.

Beyond the booth, X has proven to be a multifaceted artist and public figure, endeavoring in the worlds of fashion, activism, and podcasting. His Kryptic Reign Music label doubles as a clothing line and launched ‘Kryptic Kult Radio’ in 2021. He also hosts monthly workshops and seminars via social media—boasting Instagram and TikTok followings of over 150K and 230K, respectively—and in-person at Expressive Arts & Psychotherapy of the Desert, alongside his mother, Dr. Angelica Guajardo.

While fresh singles, projects, and collaborations have been at the forefront of Xpression’s music career, these undertakings have not necessarily remained the focus. A key example comes in the form of his preeminent 2019 studio album, The Write Path, and its accompanying informational journal, published in June 2020. The Write Path to Creative Self-Xpression is equal parts poetic musing, therapeutic exercise, and socratic dialogue between a maternal figure and her son. Co-written by Guajardo, these unique passages aspire to inspire anyone with a heart for creativity and self-reflection. In line with this altruistic pursuit, Xpression completed his certification as an official hip-hop therapy specialist in August 2021.

The Write Path II is soon to follow.
