Ep. 214: Born in a Trunk
Ryan and Jason celebrate 81 years of "A STAR IS BORN" with a special retrospective examining every aspect of the 1937, 1954, 1976, and 2018 versions of the classic Cinderella melodrama. From the murky origins of its inspiration, to why Hollywood is drawn to these self-reflective themes of fame and addiction again and again, plus what makes each incarnation of this story unique and what binds them together. Ryan and Jason also detail their personal feelings about each version before landing on a LadyWatch ruling of the definitive film in the series, and who between Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, and Lady Gaga takes the crown as the ultimate titular Star!
Right up my alley.
I just discovered this gem today and I’m thrilled to find it but a tad overwhelmed because now I want to listen to every single one of their past episodes. I might need to take a coast to coast road trip simply so I can listen to this uninterrupted! And guys, my auction house is having the Zsa Zsa Gabor Estate Sale and I would love for you to come to it. She’s gotta be one of your original Ladies, yes? Google Zsa Zsa Auction to find me.
Simply the best.
Simply put, Ladywatch is a podcast with the perfect storm of chemistry, humor, and insight. It is pop culture lightning in a bottle with pitch perfect production quality and content week after week. I know that I speak for all of us Ladywatchers when I say thank Ryan and Jason, for all of the hard work and love that you put into this podcast.
It's like a referential stroll through my psyche but with very entertaining tour guides.
