A friend and I were speculating what kind of podcast we would host, if we were to have a podcast. My idea was the “Land Ethic” podcast, in the spirit of Aldo Leopold’s work in ecology, forestry, and philosophy. Naturally I looked up whether someone has had this idea, and: sure enough! I stumbled on this podcast. I appreciate that Dylan is interested and knowledgeable enough to ask his guests clear and insightful questions, but also that he is on a learning path similar (I suspect) to many millennials who have felt a pull more recently to live a life more harmoniously with non-human cohabitants of our country (and planet). It has been inspiring to hear the stories of people who are on journeys that are similar in the abstract (let’s be better neighbors and stewards of nature), but are so diverse in the details. It’s also great to hear that many of the experts he talks to have entered their current path at different points in their life. You don’t need to grow up on a ranch to appreciate regenerative ag or to think about how to be a more mindful consumer, for example! As someone who is contemplating a career shift into something that better aligns with my personal values, it’s also been great to just get a cross section of some possible career options in this space, too!
