    #7 - Explaining Venezuela in 2024 (goes wrong) - Part 1

    In this episode (which was initially recorded in early August) Dan tries to explain to Mo the current situation in Venezuela while also taking some detours along the way. The current political situation in Venezuela is very complex and goes back several years but at latinos that we are we try to approach it with a bit of humor as it characteristic of our common culture. In the process the camera ran out of storage and we needed to record a part 2 which is also already up and available to listen/watch by the time this video comes out.

    Join hosts Dan and Mo as they welcome Raven, a dear friend of the show and a fabulous drag artist just in time for Reykjavík Pride. Together, they dive into a lively discussion about pink-washing and queer-coding, exploring these topics from their unique immigrant perspectives. The conversation starts into the concept of pink-washing, where Raven tells us how it is to organise and get collaborations around pride week vs. any other time of the year, both as a drag queen and a manager of a venue. Also how corporations and institutions and the media can superficially support LGBTQ+ rights to capitalize on the community without advocating for genuine change.  They also explore queer-coding, discussing characters in media who are hinted to be queer without explicitly stating it. Examples include characters like Ursula from "The Little Mermaid" and Scar from "The Lion King," who exhibit traits often associated with queer culture, yet their identities are never openly acknowledged in the original shows.
