Alanna Gerton

This isn’t a podcast about leadership. It’s about leading yourself first — in business, in love, in clarity, and in silence. I’m Alanna Gerton — solo founder, builder, and woman still in the becoming. This is ‘Lead’, the voice notes I needed, the standards I’m setting, and the moves I’m making while building a version of myself no one’s met yet.

How I accidentally became an entrepreneur

Want to grow your business? Go here: https://alannagerton.com/ This is how I became an accidental entrepreneur... Never heard of this term before 'accidental entrepreneur'? Me either. But I became it. 25-year-old founder? Not part of my plan. Traveling the world for 2 years? Never imagined it. Running something that has nothing to do with my degree? Nah never. And yet. Here I am. I didn’t start with a business plan. I didn’t have a niche. I didn’t even know I was starting. All I did was say yes to a side project.I didn’t overthink it. I just executed. That “small thing” turned into my first client. My first client turned into momentum. Momentum turned into a business I never saw coming. This isn’t a story about strategy. It’s a story about movement. About showing up before you feel ready. Want to know what I did differently? 1 — self-taught a new skill (SEO) because it was fun and fulfilling. No expectations. 2 — took on side projects while working a full-time job. Woke up at 5am, worked till midnight. 3 — trusted myself. Didn’t overthink. Just did the thing. 4 — took risks. Held the discomfort. Moved anyway. 5 — stayed consistent, especially when it was hard. Because the action matters more than the mood. Am I on the right path? Maybe not. I’ve felt lost. I’ve felt lonely. I’ve doubted the future more than once. Real? Not real? Who knows. It reminds me of the old story: A man and his son lived in a village. One day, their only horse ran away. The neighbors said, “How unlucky.”The man said, “Luck? No luck? Who knows?” The next week, the horse returned, with five wild horses. The neighbors said, “Wow, what good fortune!” The man said, “Luck? No luck? Who knows?” Then his son rode one of the wild horses, fell, and broke his leg. Again, the neighbors cried, “How terrible.” The man said once more, “Luck? No luck? Who knows?” Soon after, the military came to the village, recruiting all able-bodied young men for war. The son was spared. So is this success? A detour? A setup for something else? Luck? No luck? Who knows? All I know is: I’m still showing up. And that might be the point.
