He realized that the worldly success he wanted was a reflection of a broken view of leadership he held; instead of being a leader to meet a need, he was driven by the desire to be seen as important. Thankfully, he recalls, God got a hold of him and showed him that pride was getting in the way of becoming the leader he was made to be. Patrick discusses the importance of leaders serving those around them and not just waiting for retirement to become philanthropic or charitable. Patrick often has to remind executives that they will have more impact on their employees and their spouses and families than almost anyone else, so to impact in this world, they should start there.     Tom Wright on What Made Paul Such a Great Leader, the Value of Intellect & What People Are Forgetting About Christianity’s View of Suffering

    Dr. Krish Kandiah has the pleasure of interviewing New Testament Scholar and Bishop Tom Wright this week. They recorded this in the spring of 2020, a few months into the lockdown, shortly after Tom released his book God and the Pandemic. Tom unpacks some of the concepts from there, but then they also journey through a collection of other topics from Tom’s start in leadership, to Paul and Timothy’s styles of leading, why leaders should read intellectual works, and how we can process suffering in light of the global moment of COVID-19. Tom dives deeper into how Paul was unique in that he was incredibly gifted in multiple ways and was an intersection of special traits that positioned him perfectly for the tasks Jesus gave him. He was a Roman citizen, fluent in Greek and Hebrew, culturally astute to both the broader society and also Judaism. Paul was also incredibly smart, driven as a leader, and capable of developing others different from him like Timothy.     Dr. Krish Kandiah is joined by Kevin Olusola, a member of the chart topping acapella group Pentatonix, to hear his story of life, music, and faith intersecting. Known for his “cello boxing” (playing the cello while beatboxing), he rose to fame as Pentatonix won the TV show The Sing Off and later became known for viral YouTube covers and fresh remakes of Christmas classics. Kevin openly shares about what it is like to be a Christian in the music industry. What encourages him is the opportunity to be a light in dark places, which both the music industry and living in LA can feel like as a Christian.
