Episode 7: Use Caution with Labels

As adults, it’s really easy for us to put labels on kids. Shy, wild, reserved, outgoing. Smart, stubborn, dawdler, defiant. It’s normal that we have ideas about who our kids are and who they’re going to grow up to be. But we need to step back, and let our kids decide that for themselves. They will tell us who they are. Episode 2: Learning is a Journey

Just like there is no one “right” path for a road trip, there is also no one RIGHT way to learn. There is only the right way for your child and your family. Every journey will be different because our children are all unique! One of my favorite quotes ascribed to Madeline Hunter says, “Expecting all children the same age to learn from the same materials is like expecting all children the same age to wear the same size clothing.” Great teachers -- and great parents -- strive to understand how a child learns best, so that they can find success in and out of the classroom.
