    The Power of a Test Run

    Challenge this, sprint that — everyone tells you to lock in for 7 days, 12 weeks, or 1 year, but very rarely do they include instructions on how to prepare. I’m obsessed with structured, time-bound challenges; I’ve been doing them since I was a kid (that’s how I accidentally became a vegetarian 17 years ago — after a 2-week no-meat challenge, I just couldn’t go back). Now many people can love challenges but not many can finish them as often as I do. One of my tricks of the trade is a test run. This is a period of time before the “official” challenge begins. I do my best to complete everything as planned and make adjustments while observing my shortcomings so I can design a challenge that’ll be realistic for me. Test runs are how I set myself up for success instead of setting myself up to be disappointed. In this episode, I break down how to set up a test run and an easy tracking system.     A Change in Behavior Is Helping Me Build My Dream Life

    Last year was all about survival and I’m not gonna lie, it almost took me out. I spent almost all of 2025 grieving while replaying my life’s movie from my mom’s guest room. I cried about people I loved taking advantage of me. I cried because I let them. I cried because I’ve had to work so. hard. in life. And I cried that I’ll never get to hug my baby brother again. When I was done, I was anew. I’m still getting used to who I am now and I know a few of my loved ones are too. Simply put, I’m different. November 2025 to March 2026 was my renaissance after my isolation period. And once again, it was so hard. I mean, exhausting, but this time I had help because I know how to identify my needs now and I know how to ask for help. I told you I’m different! I even got to see a few friends during this renaissance period and meet some really cool strangers along the way. November me was doing whatever she had to do to get out of The US and me now is wrapping up week one of four in a Mexican holistic yoga house, dedicating most of my free time to creating for fun instead of out of obligation.     Most of what I know about negotiation I've picked up from my homie Chad while watching him navigate business deals. I came across someone on TikTok raving about Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher & William Ury and I’m really into the book so far. Roger Fisher founded the Harvard Negotiation Project (HNP) in 1979 after encouragement from Ury and then research assistant Bruce Patton. Apparently his eccentric joie de vivre and unique approach to international relations deserved recognition and thus, the HNP was born. I just started the book, but I had to share with you a piece about approaching a negotiation with mutual interests in mind rather than focusing on positions.
